What drives you to respond to others' discussions?

When I get a best response, it will really make me happy. And I think nowadays it's my drive to post to others' discussions. But sometimes the best responses are already chosen. I still reply to them as I appreciate my friends' efforts to spend time replying to my discussions. And therefore I would like to respond to their discussions.

What drives me to respond is if I have anything to add, whether it be a friend or another person who started it. I also like to read a variety of discussions to see what people like to talk about in daily life.
I have found it to be interesting whenever I get a best response so I go back to read what I have posted to see if it had any bearing on why it was chosen. I have started to get more best responses recently because I have taken the time to think out what I am going to say instead of just going out on a limb as well.

Firstly I get all my friends notifications which I endeavour to reply to, I can't reply to every single one of them, because some topics I do know nothing about, then when I do discussions myself and someone news responds, then I will go and check out their profile and if I see any interesting discussions they have created then I will check them out and respond. I think newbies deserve to have their discussions read, after all we were newbies once and know what it was like not to have any of our discussions responded too.

Usually, I respond to a discussion if I really have something to say. I like to have more than a one sentence answer, so I won't answer any discussion that requires that. Sometimes, I won't respond to a discussion if it already has a best response to them, but most of the time it doesn't matter. If I really have something to say, then I say it.

if you go to my profile.. you'll see that i have not started much discussions - i prefer to respond to others, this is because...
1) i find that most of the times the things i wanna write about has already been posted by someone else.. might as well just respond to it.
2) because of too many email alerts from my friends with new discussions - i dont have time to think of any new topics for new discussions...
i dont really care if i dont get 'best response' - i will just write my honest, heart-felt response..

Good morning, dear youless. I guess that youless knows that I love to respond to discussions more than to post discussions. So that is why my new discussions are very few. Instead I do more responding. Well, speaking of the drive to post discussions, it depends on one of the major things that I think is worth posting on my side. I am also very lazy in using my mind to think of new discussions because I don't think that I am productive and imaginative, but I do love to respond to friends' discussions, especially those not easier to understand and respond to. But sometimes I would still try to respond to those that I do not fully understand and I would ask for an explanation about it to make sure that I understand it better before giving further response...

Usually I respond when the topic or question strikes my attention. I respond whether there is a best response or not, because I still want to get my opinion out there. I have gotten a few best reponse rewards as well, so that is another good reason to respond, but not always the reason for my response. I think I just enjoy letting other people know what I think.

If the subject matter is something I can relate to, I respond. I try to get to most of my friends posts also. But, if I cannot relate, then I can not give a decent response to it.
I like giving a response that people are not wondering where in the heck did she get an answer like that? LOL

There are many things that drive me to respond to a discussion, youless!
My most responses are to my friends here, not only because I want to talk to them but also because I know them fairly well, or at least what they mean when they say something, and so I don't need to spend extra time in understanding exactly what the poster is asking for. When I respond to people whom I don't know, it takes more of my time just to know the intent of a discussion; with friends, it's not a problem.
Then, there are subjects that interest me very much, like politics, religion, cultures, family, relations, children, psychology, philosophy and many other. If I see, from reading a discussion, that the poster is genuinely interested in discussion, debate, understanding, I am most inclined to respond.
I also really appreciate people who choose best response even if it's not or never me. It shows an element of their commitment to a discussion, so I'll respond to them even if they have never given or probably would never give me best response. Definitely, I like best responses for myself too!:-)
Then, there are discussions, which though do not interest me particularly but the poster is asking something in which I can help in a way. I respond to such posts too!

Thank you for your kind words, youless!
I do remember how we became friends!:-)
More than 7 months ago, you started a discussion near the end of a month saying that you need more responses to your discussions to make it to payout for that month. I responded to that discussion and said I would look into your other discussions too and then I replied to some 8 more discussions. I don't know if it helped you but I do know that it did help me win a very good friend whose user name is youless!

Perhaps you are the one who receive many best responses. And I think many people understand why. As you really respond a discussion quite well. I forgot how the first time I got to know you, but I am lucky to have a good friend like you.

That's right. Getting best responses contributes a lot to the motivation to answer to discussions. And even the comments on your response have almost the same effect, since it makes you feel part of the comunity...people are actually writing you... I used to quit writing resposes from time to time, but after receiving a mail about getting a response, a comment or a prize, I came here and started to be active again.
It's all about feeling part of the community...this is the most motivating thing when many people meet in the same place.
~ ...in my opinion...feel free to express yours ~

I try to comment back to every response I got too. I think it's a way to communicate and try to show my appreciation. To me I think it's interest that drives me to respond. As long as I am interested in the topic and feel like having something to say, I will post a response.

My main reasons why I responded to other people's discussions: 1)to let my friends know I appreciate and want to establish good relationship with them and that includes you 2) I find the topic interesting 3) I have a goal for this month which is to reach 200 number of posts so as to use the myLot code 4) to maintain my star or to increase its numerical value. I guess those are all my reasons youless. Oh and maybe the 4) the monetary compensation I get.

I think I respond just because I like to talk to people and see other's point of view. I believe it is human nature to want to talk to people and get to know them.

I like to respond to thoughtful and well written discussions, something that catches my interest and something I feel I can contribute to. I always look through my friends discussions first when I log in, there are so many varied discussions here and I usually find myself spending a lot of time here.

Usually, it is the topic itself.
Sometimes the topic just calls out to you when you are browsing the listing. Much like this one calls out to me when I was scrolling thru the list of discussion topics.
If I get a best response, I am naturally happy. BUt if I don't, ahh well, there is always next time.

it drives me to respond to others discussion by reading their discussion first if it's gonna catch my attention or not or if i have something to share like opinions or some things that i've experienced

The topic of discussion. I just love to talk, so I always got some to say. Usually I hang around in places where there are topics of my interests. I always on the look out for a best response, and Incidentally I got one the other day, and I felt so good that I almost was happy the rest of the day. Its really great to interact with people and get to know their ideas and thoughts.

I reply, because I have something to add, something valid to say and the financial reward is a nice bonus.
