I have three dogs and I have trained two of them, it was a lot of work but I feel glad for it becuase now when I say something like stay still they do it. I even trained him so when I said in German, talk to me, he would bark at me and indeed he still does it. He knows come here, sit, plat, stand up, come, up, stay still and faster. Thats a lot. Now my friends say that my dogs have an MBA on training. jajaa What about you? Have you done it yourself? Do you think its useful? Would you recomend it to future owners of pets? Are you happy?

I think all dogs should have at least a minimum of training. We took our dog to puppy school it was a lot of fun. She was a great dog.

my late dogs--3 shihtzus--were spoiled brats, but very smart without schooling. they act nerdy. if i forget something, they will remind me. they always worry about me. and they each have their own way of communicating with me that i sometimes feel that they are talking to me in their own way and i actually understand what they are saying. but i just let them be dogs, or actually more like furry humans. maybe that is why they act smart. i treat them like humans that they start to believe it. they were funny. i miss them.

Out door pets (cats included) need to come on command. This is to help keep them from getting in trouble and also to get them in the house when it is time. I once had a cat that would jump onto my shoulder from several feet away when I called it, I did not train him but rather it was something that he decided to do on his own and I just enforced it.
I read in the papers today that they are training sea bass to come back to where they are feeding them by ringing a bell. This will help to keep the bass from polluting in a small area and also to make feeding them less expensive. Yes even fish can be trained.

Hi. You are so right. Training dogs is tough but gratifying work. You feel so happy when he listens understands and does your bidding. After reading your question, I have posted a new write up in http://www.unleashenergy.com/dog-training called "Games you can teach your dog",
The same article has a link to another article of mine called "Training a show dog" I hope you read and like both articles.
