If you know HTML, did you teach yourself or did you take a class? I taught myself when I was in high school. I wanted to go to school to create websites, but never got a chance to.
For those of you who do web design, what was the next thing you learned after HTML?

I have taught myself some basic html. I have done a couple of sites for myself, but no graphics or anything extensive. I too would like to take a course for web design. I think I could probably get some freelance work doing this if I could take classes and learn more design and become more familiar with it.

Um, please don't. If you are going to get something, use DreamWeaver. FrontPage requires that you are hosted with a site that has all of their goodies installed. It tends to produce bloated, slow-loading code. If you can't do it yourself, use a professional tool.

i learned html myself. if you want create website and want to know which technologies you should learn. then you must learn javascipt, server side coding like C#,Vb.Net,asp etc.
for designing template for websites you need knowledge about illustrator, photoshop, flash, dreamweaver etc.

I learned how to code in html out of curiosity. I learned doing it during my second year in college. I learned by myself. Now I am creating my websites. Now, I know about CSS and a little bit of javascript.

Well it was part of the curriculum of my school so i wasn't COMPLETELY self taught.. I think html is a must for everyone that goes online... WebDesign is really fun especially when you have knowledge of graphics design you can really make professional looking sites...

I learned web designing and HTML myself. And i asked about it from here and there. I am very fond of making websites so i started it almost 4 years ago and now i am expert in web designing. I am not a master of web designing but i know how to make a website and how to run it successfully.
Thanks

I taught myself HTML when I wanted to start being a community leader at Geocities. A lot of what I learned, I learned by reading other's code and figuring how they did things I thought were neat. I did learn some from books and websites as well.
I will say that I learned my layout and design skills from working on the yearbooks in high school and college. That's one of my main complaints about a lot of personal websites -- the layout is horrid. I highly recommend either The Non-Designer's Design Book or The Non-Designer's Web Book as a starting point.
Frankly, after learning HTML and then moving on to using Dreamweaver, I have spent most of my time working on how to effectively collaborate on the building of websites. That's a big one for me now.
Hope those help.

I'm self-taught all the way. I didn't even know I was interested in web or graphic design until I started working full-time in the office environment. The only programming experience I had was Basic. But with that experience I was able to absorb HTML and Visual Basic pretty easily. Graphic design just came naturally.
I don't do anything extensively with websites, but I do maintain and rework current sites for my job.
One of the best resources I utilized in learning HTML was http://webmonkey.com
Plus I'm self-teaching myself Javascript. Although I've been pretty lax on it lately. http://javascript.com

I'm self-taught, though I've got rather lazy lately. I had an interest in web design when I was just a kid and using Geocities for free websites. I knew basic HTML and through the years I've taught myself HTML, CSS, and some Javascript editing.
There's a lot out there to learn, but to me, the best way to do it is to see how others do it and adapt it to fit what you want to do. I've taken a course or two but found they were boring as I already knew basic skills (and intermediate), so I didn't go very far in my Web Design courses. I've found books to be useful because you can read at your own pace and mark what you'll need to come back to, but for me the best way to learn how to do something new is to 'view source' on a page and see how they did it.
