There are two Mexican dishes that I really love although I don't get them all that often. One is bunuelos. They are simular to donuts and donut holes and are covered in cinnamon sugar. Growing up we lived part of the time in Texas and were able to use Mexican flour called Mesa Trio to make them, I think Walmarts may sell it now. However, I did find an American version which I will share. I've made them for my Hubby before and he loves them as well.
My other favorite thing I've only gotten to have once when I was 15 and my cousin's husband had to identify for me. It is called Agua Fresca and is the most delicious drink I've ever had. The one I had on a trip to Mexico was watermelon. I've searched the net and was able to find out how to make it as well. This summer when fruits are in season I plan on making it for the first time.
BUNUELOS (FRIED SWEET PUFFS)
3 1/3 c. regular all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. butter
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
Salad oil for deep frying
Cinnamon coating
Sift flour, measure, then sift again with salt, baking powder, and sugar into a bowl. Add butter and rub into flour with your fingertips until mixture is like coarse meal. Beat eggs lightly with milk, then pour into flour mixture and stir until dough forms a solid mass. Turn dough out onto board, and knead lightly for 2 minutes or until smooth. Cut dough into balls the size of marbles and let stand 15 minutes.
Roll each ball on a lightly floured board into a very thin pancake 4 inches in diameter. Cut a hole in center with a thimble. After rolling out the circles of dough, place them in a single layer on waxed paper until ready to cook.
Fry in hot deep fat (375 degrees) until puffed and golden brown, about 30 seconds on each side. Drain on paper towels. Use following coating. Makes 6 dozen sugar-coated Bunuelos.
Mix 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl. As Bunuelos are still warm, shake in sugar mixture. Works well with one person frying and one shaking in sugar mixture. You can put the coating in a paper bag and drop the donuts straight from the fryer to the bag, roll it shut and shake it up.Agua
Agua Fresca De Fruta
Basic Mexican Fruit Cooler
This basic agua fresca recipe is delicious with any of the fruit/herbs listed below:
2 cups cold water (spring or filtered water is best)
1 cup ice
2 cups fruit (see below)* (cut fruit into 1-inch pieces unless otherwise specified)
¼ cup sugar, or to taste
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
Mix agua fresca up: Combine all ingredients in blender on high speed until completely smooth. Pour through a fine sieve or strainer into a large glass pitcher or glass barrel. Chill and stir before serving. Makes about 5 cups.
Agua Fresca Fruit Variations (suggested additions)
honeydew or cantaloupe melon
mango (use 1 cup - about 1 small mango)
pineapple with a few fresh basil leaves
watermelon
strawberries (halved) with a few fresh mint leaves
papaya
seedless red grapes (whole)
So, what are some of your favorite dishes from forgein lands or your own home land? Did you ever have a dish while on vacation that you absolutely loved and wanted again? Have you learned to make it? Please share if you know how to make it.

I love trying food from other countries too. This Mexican recipe sounds fantastic.
I love Italian food. Here is a great Italian recipe:
EASY ITALIAN MEATLOAF
2 1/2 lbs ground beef or chuck
2 large peppers, red or green, coarsely chopped
1 16 oz can diced tomatoes
1 large sweet onion, chopped
4 slices bacon
1 1/2 cups Italian breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons minced or pressed garlic
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/3 teaspoon oregano
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley (do not substitute)
1 teaspoon seasoned salt or beef bouillon powder
2 eggs
1/3 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup (or more as needed)
onion and garlic powder to taste
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a large bowl, combine meat, eggs, seasonings and remaining ingredients except ketchup and bacon, adding breadcrumbs to mixture last. If meat is low in fat, add up to 1 tablespoon olive oil. Mix well.
Press meat into a loaf shaped pan, forming a dome shape. Brush top with ketchup and sprinkle with onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cover with bacon slices. Baste occasionally with additional ketchup during cooking, being careful not to allow oven to get cold or additional cooking time will be required. If desired, cover with thinly sliced onions.
Bake uncovered 1 1/2 hours.
Variation: Substitute your favorite barbeque sauce for basting

I absolutley love that you shared recipe's with us! I'm soo going to try them out! :)
Okay favorite dish from other lands..Well there are a lot for me! I love trying new foods. One that I love is Sushi...I know a bunch of you are probably going "Eeeew Gross". right now, but let me explain. Sushi does NOT mean raw fish..Sushi means wrapped with rice. So that can pertain to a lot of different types of Sushi. Typically yes it does have raw fish..which by the way tastes less fishy than when its cooked. I have had some made with vegetables, bacon, even eggplant..Wierd huh?
Another of my favorites is Tamales...for real..I love them. I dont know what is, but they are awesome! Its funny when you think about it though..the foods in America and in most countries are so diverse its hard to think of them as being foods from other lands. I dont have any recipe's to share for the fact that I have never made my own of either, but I'm excited to see if anyone else posts recipes :)

I haven't tried that recipe yet so let me know how they turn out. My Brother still makes them with the Mexican flour so the next time I see him I will get the original recipe off the bag and post it.
Thanks for responding!!

These both sound really delicious. I think I will try the bunuelos even though they sound terribly fattening. I might give the drink a miss though as it sounds a tad expensive for me to make. Thanks so much for sharing these.

I really like Asian inspired flavours. I love thai soups, they are really fresh and healthy and they have heaps of fresh vegtables and is really good for you i like tom young gong the best.
I also like hearty Italian dishes and salads, i like the crisp fresh flavours of the ingrediants and i love feta cheese, i think that italians make the best pizzas, really quality produce and they dont flood the pizzas, but put on alot of topping.

I've never been outside the US but I do love Italian food.
I don't have any great recipes though because my hubby doesn't share my love for it - or not as much as I do LOL.
I don't like Mexican food at all. I hate beans and most spicy foods. But that fruit drink sounds great!

I love Japanese foods, here in the Philippines it is hard to be find authentic japanese restaurants. SOme are only fast food type. A good japanese meal is quite costly here. I like sushi that are made fresh and tempura as well. I remember going to an eat all you can japanese restaurant and I swear, I have eaten so much salmon sushi and tempura that day. Next would be Italian dishes, particularly pasta. I love cheese and the dishes that has it as well. Favorite is baked zitti. I've tried to make baked zitti at home and I added extra mozarella cheese and it is so yummy.

I love finding new dishes, one of my favorite is East Indian Curry not English Curry which is pretty common here in the US. Look on the Internet for Indian Curries. And enjoy.
