Does your childcare use kiddie cams?

My daughter recently enrolled her 4yr. old daughter in a learning center for two days a week. Actually I refer to these places as daycares. My daughter put alot of effort in locating a center. She felt the experience with other children and authority figures would be good. This center has a kiddie cam! That was the option that got her there. She got three accounts and has the ability to watch only the rooms that her child is in. When you log in you get 14 min. to view. Then you can begin again. Of course, between my daughter and mother in law there is always someone online. I showed my grand daughter this one afternoon, she knows she is not alone. I think this is great! She waves at the ceiling often. I don't think she knows where the cameras are. There is no sound, you can watch how the children play together and how the teachers work and deal with the kids. Wonder if this will ever be placed in public schools? I think it is great.

Ok so normally I would think this was great until I tried it myself. I have a 17 mos old that I put into daycare at the age of 12 mos. They too had the kiddie cam and that was one of my reasons for choosing them. I had never left her with strangers before and all of my family is in another state so I didn't have a choice. So, the first few weeks I brought her there, she would cry her eyes out at least 5-7 times a day. I went on their site once per hour to check on her and she was always crying. I was told it would get better but it didn't. The daycare's rules were no bottles (which she was still on them at the time), and they had to feed themsleves. Did I mention my child was a preemie and lived in the hospital the first 4 weeks of her life? So, because she could not feed herself, they would feed her but very little. She wouldn't want it, and therefore would come home starving and screaming! Also everytime I looked on the kiddie cam she was left in the corner crying. It broke my heart to see her there like that. She was there for 2 mos and finally I found a better place for her. No kiddie cam but with a family daycare instead which only has 5 kids. She's alot happier now and so am I.

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I know how hard it was for you to leave her anywhere. I am sure it was so difficult for you to watch her and not be there to take care of her. That is a tough age to leave a child, espicially one that needs some extra care/attention. I am happy you found a better place for her to stay! I know it is hard to leave the little ones.

Thanks for commenting on this. It was extremely difficult to leave her. I have another daughter who was taken care of by my mother-in-law when she was little so this was my first experience with outside daycare. I'm glad that everything is going well for you so far though. Good daycares are very hard to find.
