Organic or home grown food?

Which do you think is the best for you - organic or home grown food? Personally, we grow a lot of our own vegetables and I like the fact that I know exactly what has been used to grow them and where they have come from. With organic food i'm always dubious about how far it has travelled around the world and how old it is, it's also very expensive. What are your opinions - if you had a choic would you choose organic or home grown?

I think if you are lucky enough to have some land on which can grow your own, and you take care not to use harmful pesticides, you can't beat home grown food.
I try to buy organic or fresh local farm grown vegetables but they are quite expensive. I have grown herbs and tomatoes indoors, but I would love to have space to grow my own food.

I agree, organic certainly is quite expensive. We are very lucky to have a garden big enough to grow vegetables in, but don't forget you can grow quite a few things in small containers or windowboxes, such as radishes, lettuces and a wide variety of herbs. If you have a large tub-or old bin, then drill some holes in the bottom, fill it with compost and you can grow potatoes, even if you have a small back yard that will be enough. Mushrooms can also be grown inside in a small dark cupboard.
