If there will be some control on population growth , then government can think about some proper plan. If corruption will not corrupt every effort of government then there will be some improvement. If every citizen will be educated and equally treated in every field of life, then people will start thinking and will Know the difference between good and bad , crime and justice......... If you are speaking of India.......it is too late my brother, the roots of poverty are very deep and very strong........ Population control, education to all, end of corruption and development of individual personality .both physically and mentally can change things, but to have all these thing together is very difficult now in our county.

Yes, exactly. It's a collaborative effort between the government and the citizens. The government has to think of prudent programs that the citizens can healthily participate while trying to strengthen the communication components so the citizens will understand how it works and the pros and cons.

Agreed that the govt has a major role to play in the elimination of poverty, however today the industry itself is also playing a very important role by creating more and more jobs in the system. The govt in this case surely needs to be a major facilitator for the same. I would also like to stress here that the individual himself is also response for this. I have seen that several people are begging by the road side and they are healty enough to do some work but they are satisfied by begging. Why? They dont want to do a job. The industry is facing shortage of unskilled as well as skilled labour. Why not channalize such persons into the system. When it comes to heath care a social security network can play a leading role in this as we see the govt bought about a medical insurance at a price of re 1 per day. These are good plans and need to be communicated where they are targetted the most.

i think it's everyone's job to alleviate poverty and make sure every citizen will have proper health care. but ideally, the government should lead the actions and make the necessary legislations since we elected themin office (oftentimes) and the tax payers pay their salary.

Yes I think a big part of removing poverty is the governments job. I also think education is the key, people need to be educated more in third world countries, all kids go to school and also teach everyone business skills so they can set up their own business to survive. I definately think it is crucial that all cizitizens have health care.

It's a vicious circle. More government involvment means more taxes, more taxes lead to poverty. If more people in this country would take care of themselves, and go out and work and stop sitting around complaining and thinking someone owes them something then this country would be in much better shape, if more people knew how to manage their finances this country would be in better shape. I would rather keep more of our money that my husband and I earn and take care of things our self, then pay it out in taxes, and let someone else decide how my money is spent, and no I don't want to work my tail off to pay for insurance, and welfare, and everything else because other people failed to plan their own lives our correctly. I am sorry I am not incenstivie and if I see someone struggling to make ends meet I will gladly help them, but I want that to be my decision to do so, not the governments.

well I am in canada and it is the liberal government that brought in universal health care in 1972 I believe. poverty we still haven't gotten an edge on it. And it is the government's responsibility to end it.

I do agree that the governments of our world so have a responsibility to try and sort out poverty, hunger and suffering but I think that we all have some responsibility too! If each one of us who could afford it contributed we could see the end of global poverty and make this world of ours a far happier and healthier place! xxx

The people itself./. If people are not too lazy there is a massive possibility that we can overcome the poverty and if people are cooperating then we can see this world a better place without poverty

You have to remember that when the government gets involved with anything it is actually the tax payers who end up paying for it. The Government can't even balance their budget, do you really want them in charge of your health care. The Government can't eliminate poverty, in order to do this they have to take away from the people who have worked really hard to not be in poverty. I was born very poor, but I rose up, I worked by butt off, I worked my butt off to put my self through college so that I could get a good job. We all have that opportunity, it is harder for somet than others, but should I have to pay more taxes to support somoene who doesn't want to work as hard as I did. I don't think so. When Government takes care of things like this it is not the government who pays for it, it is all of us, and they won't use the tax money efficiently. Wouldn't you rather keep more of your own money and take care of your self with it?

well i have a different opinion. it is the people's job as well as responsibility to remove poverty in the country. why do we have wait for the government to act when we our selves can make a move on our own. the big companies, they have the power to add more man power in their company, it is just a little investment for them though but in return many people will benefit from it. the government only responsibility is to supervise those big company with regards to their employee. and as much as possible add more man power, to compensate the people that don't have works. people as well will not just wait until the government will call them and invite them to work. and what would your mother say for example if you are already graduated from college and you still have no work? they will be mad, and even scold you. or worse drag you out to find a job. that is why, people should not wait and sit, we should stand and work, there are maybe many people who are contented with a simpple life, well that will be ok as long as no one will get sick or hospitalized. but the thing is, what if in a family, their is only one that is employed, then the rest is a responsibility?. and what if suddenly by accident, that bread winner got hospitalized and has no insurance? what do you think will happened to the rest? well, of course they will ask the government for help?! and that is wrong! what if people will do that to make an alibi? what will the government do about it? that is why before it happens people/we our selves do something to prevent it to happen. and we people always complain about corruption, that even our selves might unexpectedly do the same, in a small simple way. that is what our responsibility is not the government.
