hello all,
I am a Belgian student and i am living at an appartment in Madrid for 4 and a half months. I am living with 4 other nationalities at my appartment:
Americans ( Winsconsin, Texas)
Brits
Belgian
Spanish
And since i have been here i do not want to go to America anymore because the american people are most of the time not intresting, preparing disgusting food and kinda weird.
And even though i don't speak very well English, you can here that they have an unbelievable undecent accent, in compharison to the British people. I don t want to globolise to every American in this world. But i lost my intrest in America(ns), because they know so less of the world.
I've heard that America thinks that Belgian people still think we ride on horses to go to work. Jeezes, and its not to say that they did not go to university, they are well educated.
I know this is going to give negative reaction but i just want to hear an opinion of other Americans

not all americans are like this. you should know enough not to judge by one persons actions. maybe some people are not as worldly as you but isn't that part of the experience of living in another country? to learn?

I think that you have met few people that really do not exspress any interest for the rest of the world and now you want to judge all the Americans. I am not American and not British, I am Italian and live in England...believe me, the accent they have in the part of England where I live is really undecent...you really can not say that in England they all speak a perfect English!
Anyway I have a lot of friends from America, and they really could tell you in this moment who is speaking as an ignorant here!!!

my opinion
you are funny.
I am not sure that this is the best route to go for trying to illicit numerous responses -
my advice
my american mama taught me from an early age - (but it appears you never got this basic tenet)
if you can't say anything nice, do not say anything at all.

I hate to say this but no most Americans know little of other countries. Is this saying that we dont want to? no it isnt. What most people think America of is some magical place filled with opportunity and endless possibilities. This may be true in some ways. We have freedom of choice to a certain extent. We can say whatever we want to an extent. However most of us could not afford to visit another country in our lifetime. So why learn about some place you will never go? I like to learn about other places, countries I yearn to visit someday but, do I think I will actually go? no. Americans have to be so focused on surviving what is that we do not have time for dreams of what could be if... Most of the jobs here have no possibility of living beyond pay check to pay check. Now some of us can make it places and travel be glad that you can. As far as the way the two room mates talked....almost every place in America has people who speak with different accents. Especially people who live in the southern states compared to people who live in the northern states. Well I am sorry you feel that way about Americans, sorrier yet that Americans act that way toward you. Thanks for your topic.

uumm i would like to know who makes that much in a week because no that is not an average wage a week. Maybe some higher ups or something but i make a good wage for my age and where i live and only get after taxes 500 USD every other week. Without overtime. Also our cost of living makes it to where we have to live pay check to paycheck. I assume by your estimates above you don't talk to regular middle class people or lower. I am a single mom and if it weren't for school loans I would live on the streets. Most Americans live on credit. Have you all not noticed that the U.S. is heading into a depression? We are right now in the beginning stages ..called a recession. The government has no idea how to pull us out so we are going to be in a depression it is only a matter of time. So please do not tell me how much you think I make and how easy it would be for me to tour the country ...that is not reality.

Thank you for your response. You have said that You have freedom of choice to a certain extent, but you don't think we have this in Europe as well? We also can choose wath we do and have freedom of speech. Maybe the way American people have a bigger oppurtunity to go to court about sometimes redicules thinks? Also i would like to mention that these days it is not soooo expensive anymore as it has been before to travel around the world, and there are so much possiblities these days. You know that american people earn like € 600 a month = 900 Dollars to work 9 hours a week!!!
I think eventually i will visit america someday because i just want to know how it is like.
Thank you
