Ok I have three to four nick channels for kids with my cable....On this channel they play Noggin for a certain time period and then there is also a seperate channel for Noggin. Got to love the choices. My question to you fellow parents is do you feel that if your child watches noggin that they are learning something while they watch?

Most definitely for my son. English was not his first language and ever since we moved here August 2006 (he was four), he has learnt sooo much because of Noggin, PBS Sprout and other children's tv programs. He was learning his ABC's (he knew them in another language) and counting in English and even learning Spanish words. Even social and behavioural skills as well. Learning to use his imagination and get creative, enjoy adventures that the characters like Backyardigans go on and some even inspire and motivate him to do things and get outdoors and play and sorts. It's a great channel for kids and he still watches Nog it everyday.

That's great I happy he was able to pick things up from the shows on Noggin they always say it's easier for younger kids to learn another language than for them to learn it later in life. LOL!! If you don't mind me asking what is his first language?

It was Samoan. We were living there for 6-7 years before moving to USA. I was the only one that spoke English to him and my husband and his family spoke Samoan which he picked up very quickly. He understood a bit of English but not a whole lot. Funny thing is, he refuses to speak Samoan now and only speaks English. Go figure

Interesting. There are so many languages out there. Also that is too funny that your husband refuses to speak his native tounge and only speaks english. Thank you for the information. I really do appreciate it.

Those shows never can hold my sons attention that long, so he probably doesn't learn that much from them. I'll tune into noggin when I'm taking a shower or doing chores in hopes that he'll leave me alone-doesn't work lol.

tried that show too lol. I've just given up. It's so funny because everyone in my family wants to take him to the movies-I can't imagine him sitting for a whole movie! He's a bit hyperactive I guess.

my son is learning spanish from all the tv he watches...i don't really know if it really helps or not...i love noggin and nick and pbs sprout though, those are the only reasons we even have cable is for him because it is a much needed break for me to let him watch tv...i hate to say it but i don't mind using the tv as a babysitter sometimes.

I believe they do. My kids all grew up watching PBS, NickJr and Noggin. (um..lol, they're not "grown up" yet - still kids) The girls had more PBS than anything. My son is the one who had full exposure to NickJr and Noggin. He learned his numbers (and could count to 100 before he started kindergarten). He used to love Blue's Clues and Dora. He still watches Noggin alot. In fact he was watching Oobie last night (er..this morning at 1am - lol - spring break)
