Gray Hair

For those of you who have begun to get gray hair my question is, do you proudly wear your gray hair or do you freak out at the first sign of gray and dye it? I know that many people have the opinion that gray hair ages them but I actually like mine. I am often told that I do not have very much gray but I have plenty. My best friend rushes to grab the dye at the first sign of a gray hair. I happen to think that gray hair is very attractive if you wear it in a style that is flattering. Some folks, especially men can really look distinguished once they begin to get some gray.

I am glad i do not have to deal with the grayness. I know they say if you have gray hair it actually stands for wisdom. So what better way than to not have wisdom.

I would accept a head full of gray hair, DESMASTER, if an abundance of wisdom came along with it.

I think I have a couple of gray hair lol. but i think I would dye if it's already obvious. Maybe when i reached 70+ I won't dye anymore.

I'm afraid the gray hair will show up long before then, doorlight.

Shall I be honest with you? Is no one else listening, ok come closer and I'll whisper it into your ear, I pluck my grey hairs out with tweezers, yes it's true, Wolfie is very vain, and I am getting lots of grey hairs here and there and I get rid of them as soon as I see them. I don't think I'd look distinguished. Mind you that's my poor self-esteem talking.

I have to agree, wolfie, that you must be very vain. But, seriously, we are all vain to some degree.

I have had streaks of gray hair since I was in my early 20's. I dye mine now and then. My mother is 60 and her hair is all gray. She actually suits it and when she wears a shade of green (I think maybe forest green or dark green), it looks really nice.

Once I began seeing a few gray strands in my late forties, maddysmommy, I was hoping that mine would all turn gray, but it hasn't happened. I think I would love to go completely gray.

I color gray whenever it becomes noticable. As you said it makes some men look distinguished, but once you let it go, you really don't have the option of going back. It would look really silly to go home from work on a Friday with a white head of hair and then show up on Monday with dark hair. Although people may say it would look nice, they probably would snicker about it when you are not around. Once you let the grey stay, you got to stay committed to leave it that way.

I'm not so sure about that, mode, as I've seen movie stars go back and forth pretty easily.

I have some platinum strays that usually go away when I color my hair. I am fortunate not that not all of my hair is platinum yet. I am not certain as to what I will do once it turns entirely white. I may like it, I may become friends with Lady Clairol.

I found myself looking forward to getting mine, Elusive, and I only occasionally think of washing away the gray.

I have, over the years, dyed my hair most colours, except green :-) currently my hair is dyed black but the silver is, once again, showing through. I was wondering whether to dye my roots again and keep fighting, but having seen my silver hair (fortunately quite a metallic silver in appearance) I am contemplating leaving it alone to go completely silver. My hair is down to my waist so I might have a very long wait

Indeed you would, recycledgoth! My hair is not that long but I like the silver threads. I think they add a distinguished look to my appearance.

Hehehe--well I could certainly get some hair color..my grays are definitely coming in..but I don't have to many, but still like my hair dyed...I sure wish it wasn't such a pain to do..why is it, it takes us gals about a half hour to dye our hair and men have that product that only takes five minutes..the Just For Men thing????

Isn't that always the way of things, pyewacket? I used to dye mine just for fun until my eczema took a turn for the worse.

I am 23 and I have grey hair from 19 years old. my mum said she had the same problem in my age, so I think it is in our family. I don't realy freak out, but it starting to bothering me more and more. I don't know why, becuase before I didn't really care, I guess so many people point it to me so much, so that's why it bothers me now.

I had this good friend back in high school, laurika, and her hair was already beginning to show signs of gray. I don't know if she went completely gray because I moved away several years later.

I have very mixed emotions about my "white" hair. lol..Its definitley whiter than gray thats for sure. I decided along time ago that if its get bad enough that I'm just going to go all white! Why the heck not? I dont see the point in spending 12 to 20 on a box of hair dye every month or spending 50 to 60 at a salon. Not worth it. However I am only 25 and not yet 26 so it does suck that I inherited those early graying genetics from my parents, but what can you do right? I do think that women that go all white or let it grow look great..So we will have to see where it goes :)

I like your attitude, smwilliams. I think it's all a matter of acceptance. A person doesn't have to look old simply because their hair is turning gray. I would only consider coloring mine if it came in in that unsightly yellowish-gray.

i found my first grey hair at age 20, and now in my late 20s i'm finding more and more. i used to pluck them when i found them but now there are just too many! the next time i get my hair cut i'll probably have it colored to cover the grey as well. i know on some people it can look quite classy, but i still think in my 20s is too young to be showing so much grey!!

Sometimes it's a family trait, cifirretsbol. I know the members of my family tend to gray at an early age, but it did not happen with me. I have cousins whose hair is completely gray and they are much younger than me.

I do not have this problem yet, as I am only 26, but I am hopeing that when my hair does start to turn it will turn whiteinstead of gray. That way I can just put a temporary, non-bleaching dye like Henna in it to color the white hairs and make them look like highlights.

I think that men who dye their hair look weird...I don't know why but you can see on them it looks totally unnatural. now when it comes to me: yes I have a few gray hairs and I simply hate them but I try to deal with it. yes I dye my hair but not because of they gray hair: dying my hair makes it look more healthy and it gives it a nice shine
