Paperback or Hardback?

Of the books you've purchased, do you prefer to buy paperbacks or hardbacks? Unless I "OMG, have to have it right this second!!!", then I usually just wait for the paperback. The only hardbacks I have are a couple from the Harry Potter series, since I pre-ordered them. Paperbacks are so much cheaper, but don't hold up as well. What's your preference?

I prefer paperbacks to hardcovers. They are easier to take around and not as bulky or heavy as a hardcover. I am like you, if its a book that I have to read right now then I will buy the hardcover.
Normally, I don't buy a lot of books though. I do a lot of book trading and swapping on http://www.bookmooch.com and http://www.paperbackswap.com. Both are excellent places to go to get books and all you pay is the price of Media Mail shipping.

They both have their pros and cons. I recently picked up a paperback of an author who I love, from a series of books he writes that I love. But then I grabbed a hard cover at the library. Though the paperback is easier to carry with me in my purse when I go to appointments and such where I may have to wait, the hardcover is easier on the eyes to read. I guess I'm getting old. Of course the paperbacks are cheaper, but you can get hardcovers cheap too if you know where to look.
My shelves are full of both.

I prefer to buy paperbacks but some of the books I have read lately are hard cover. Paperbacks are easier to handle but hard cover books last longer and are worth more for resale. I belong to a book swapping site, so I rarely buy books unless I cant wait for it to come out through the website, most of the time I just add myself to the waiting list for whatever I want to read.

I buy paperbacks because they are more affordable for me. Hardbacks I get alot of them second hand from used bookstores, library sales, and as someone else said they do...a book swapping website. I can be pretty patient when i want a certain hard cover. Ive also been buying hardcovers from the science fiction book club with doubleday.

I prefer to buy hardbacks of my favorite authors, but with the way prices are on books, I usually have to wait for paperbacks. The authors that have me anxiously awaiting their next novel are usually the ones that I'll go ahead and splurge. Or, if I know I'll read the book more than once and it will become an old and trusted friend, I'll splurge. New authors (to me anyway - LOL) or books that I'll read once and never touch again - paperback all the way. Down here, we have a fabulous chain - Half Price Books, and I can usually find most hardbacks (at half price) about 2 weeks to a month after the publication date.

Well, it really depends on if it is a Book I really want to read when it first comes out or not. A lot of times, I will wait until the price goes down for hardback and get the book then if it is really one I want to own. I prefer hardback books as they hold up longer, and fit in my bookshelf better.
I Love going to Thrift Stores and Used Book stores looking for the hardbacks I am wanting to add to my Collection, and I also go to Discount Book places as well like Discount Books, and then I have added to my Collection from sites online as well. I refuse to pay Full price for a hardback unless it is really something I have to have when it first comes out.

I don't really have a preference. If I really want the book right away and it's in hardbook then I'll buy the hardback version. However, I like the paperback versions because they are cheaper and since I'm on a college students budget, it's definitely my better option. The only books I have completely in hardback are the Harry Potter books. Those are the only ones I really enjoy having the hardback in.

I don't really mind if it's hard back or paperback, I love my books and read constantly. Paperbacks may not be quite as tough but if they are looked after, they will last for years.

I'm a snob about it...I only buy hardcovers unless the book doesn't come in hardcover. I have problems holding paperbacks open (arthritis). Plus, the print is too small for me.
I don't buy books unless I plan on keeping them. If I just want to read it, I get it from the Public Library. The hardbacks I get are usually used. I collect old books.

Well a book is a book, they all have the samw words and expand your mind the same so I guess either work for me.They both have there ups and downs, which a paperback might be cheaper, but hardbacks to last longer and look nice setting the shelves.I prefer to save a little than have a hardback, plus they seem to take up more room than the typical paperback.

If I had the money, all of my books would be hardbacks but alas I am not made of money. They last longer, look better and I like them so much better.

when it comes to books that are for reading i prefer hardback.. they are just much more stable and hold up much longer and better! and i dont know i just prefer the hardback! but if it comes to school books or work books then i prefer them in paperback because it is easier to do work it and can fold the front cover over behind the back cover and makes it easier to read!
but i mean its not like i wiat for a certain kind whatever it doesnt really matter to me

As an advid reader and wanting the book now, I guess its hardback but half price books gets alot of my money. If i'm lucky i can get the same book in hardback i want as much as paperback at this store since they hold up better.Right now i'm back from the store with 5 more books to read..YEA!! 2 paper and 2 hard.
