I am trying to teach myself

Pride Library Stained Glass - The front of the D.B. Weldon Library's Pride Library at the University of Western Ontario is decorated with a beautiful stained-glass window. The window, designed and constructed by London, Ontario artist Lynette Richards, consists of the Pride Library logo amid a list of some of history's most influential homo-, bi-, and trans-sexual authors. The Pride Library logo contains a series of shelved books, coloured with the spectrum of the rainbow, supported by the logo of the now disbanded HALO (Homophile Association of London Ontario), which has made significant contributions to the Pride Library.

I was on wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) earlier looking up something with my younger sister when I saw the "random article" button and decided to test it out. Basically I am going to teach myself very random facts and hopefully make my knowledge grow. One thing though I seen that surprised me was that Douglas Coupland is in fact gay. Now this I did not know and it does seem to surprise me. In case you don't know Douglas Coupland is a famous writer and I think Canadian as most of his books are set round Vancouver. He has done the likes of Shampoo Planet, Girlfriend in a Coma and All Families are Psychotic. I think I have probably read all his books and it's weird how I was so surprised that he is gay. It's actually quite interesting having a random article presented to you. Mine was in fact about "Pride Library"The Pride Library is a collection of books, periodicals, and audio-visual resources by and about gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals, and other queer folk. The library is located in the University of Ontario. I never thought abotu gay libraries before and the article was actually very interesting to read. So have you ever stumbled across a fact and been oddly surprised?I think I secretly fancied Douglas Coupland just because I think he is a fantastic writer.

Hello dear claire :))))) i have missed you Sugar. I don't seem to catch you much here in mylot. Sounds like you hit a perfectly wonderful random article. My husband sits and reads the dictionary or an encyclopedia at random pages so I am sure this is much the same thing :))) Only maybe better? I don't know. Nothing much shocks me any more not about human nature. As for writers when Stephen King was run over and his rehablitation was so agonizing, I heard him give and interview and he said he just did not think there was any more stories in him. He would not be writing again. That nearly broke my heart. But of course he has healed and so has his spirit and he is back to writing. A bit off topic I know :)0 just it related a bit.

I used to be a big fan of Stephen King when I was younger but I haven't read anything of his in probably 10 years now. I do love it though when a writer strikes a chord with you. I have this from a variety of different writers with different genres and there just seems to be something that appeals to me. Not neccesarily the style or techniques or the issues it deals with but more a va va voom, just something that I can connect with that is unexplained.

Great idea. However, wikipedia is not considered a great source. In fact, college professors will penalize you if you use it in papers. It is not considered a scholarly source because anyone can add information to that site. I like your initiative though. Anytime you can learn something you should. Happy mylotting.

Hey don't burst my bubble. It's my new toy. Well I am pretty sure now that Douglas Coupland is in fact gay and that is what I learned from that article so I can trust that one. I do know what you mean though how it can be inaccurate but surely they know more than me lol about lots of subjects.
