We have a ton of various flower garden areas (thanks to the previous owners who kept meticulous gardens) but they had no vegetable gardens. Since I just had back surgery I'm not going to do a veggie garden this year, but I did win this huge gardening basket and within it is a starter tomato plant (I think you grow it inside or outside) and will try that. We definitely have the space for a veggie garden whether small to large so maybe (when I get my little rototiller) I'll try one veggie type this year. From your experience, are tomatoes the easiest to grow? In fact, I'll look that up online today too, you inspired me to not just grow perennial flowers, but some veggies even if it's a small area. I'm thinking you have to fence it in a little (to keep out animals?) to, things like that. I'm a fast learner, just never grew that type of garden before.

I dont fence them in and I have a small area under my front window my tomatos take over my front walk and go onto my grass so we have to mow around them. but we dont cage them and we have them on the east side of the house so they only get morning sun alot of people here where I live put them on the west side of the house and they end up with them burning and splitting.

We will be growing tomatoes, onions, basil, lavendar, jalepenos, cilantro, zuccini and some other random things. I love to grow food in my garden. To do my shopping from my own front yard. I get so much enjoyment form it I wonder why more people dont do it. I guess not everyone is amazed by it like me.

We'll plant tomatoes and jalapenos, which we've already started indoors (We live in Michigan).
We'll also do cucumbers, onions, raddishes, carrots.
Maybe corn.
And we'll have quite a bit of flowers as well. . .geraniums, marigolds. . .also already started indoors.
And a few sunflowers.

I plant basically flowers, such as Petunia,Vinca, and Marigold. I always wanted a vegetable garden just never got around to it. I would like to plant some herbs this year. I already have oregano, and rosemary. I like Thyme so that is my first choice. If decide to plant anything, it's going to be peppers and tomatoes.

In our large garden we will plant: Corn, tomatos, onions, cucumbers, beans, radishes, peppers, cabbage, brocolli, pumpkins and cantalopes. In our smaller garden will be a garden full of potatos. We always plant different kinds of each vegetable. We will plant about 20 tomato plants. I will make spaghetti sauce, salsa, stewed tomatos and possibly tomato juice.

I usually stick with flowers. They don't require much extra care and I can only use my front yard since my dog pulls up everything new I plant. If it's not new he just digs in it to bury his bones. I usually do plant tomatoes, so will look for a spol to put them on the side of the fence that the dog can't get to.
