How do you come up with your ideas for topics?

One of my new friends expressed a bit of frustration at someone else's choice of topic and that got me wondering,
Where do you get your ideas for topics?
From your own life?
From the newpaper, radio or television or from other sources? And how do you decide if it will be suitable for mylot? i.e. something that will get replies enough to constitute a good discussion.
What subject do you like to talk about most?
Do you post all over my lots or just in certain areas of it?
What makes a topic a "hot topic"?

I just type the topic which comes to my mind. Sometimes they may be good and sometimes they may be bad. I also get ideas from others topics. I look up te topics with most responses and think why it got that many responses. The thing to do is to choose a topic which appeals to a wide range of people.
I like watching movies a lot. So my favorite interest is watching movies.

Ah so you stick with your favorite interest of watching movies often...sounds like a fun subject area.
It seemed from the guidelines that you are not supposed to have duplicate discussions going on at the same time... was wondering how long a person should wait before rephrasing or resubmitting a discussion area?

I tend to ask more questions than anything!! Things that pop into my head throughout the day and I just write them down and then if I think that they might be ok then I will put them on here. I do not know what constitutes a good discussion I just put it on and hope for the best, if no one responds I do not mind I just try again!!

Actually I have always wanted to write novels, or A novel, but always tell myself that I have not got the time. I am not a writer anywhere else at the moment, although I would love to have a go and do have a few sites that I look at from time to time, but have not yet gained the courage to have a go myself.

You might want to think about why to you alone I suggested that you consider writing a novel... hmm... interesting that you thought of it yourself and gave the excuse for not proceeding that you had "no time"... hmm... how about carrying a little notebook along with you. I have been known to carry one in my purse and to jot a little when the whim hits. You have the desire to write and are good at it. If you have a novel or non fiction piece or whatever else you have, you are depriving the world of it if you never seek to give it a birth by writing it down. The time will pass whether you write or not... Yet there is always time to write in the times of waiting, the night times, the day times in between other things... if you choose.
Sorry if I sound like a nagger... I see that you have some ability and need to use it further.

It is good that you jot things down... You could write a novel that way too... wondering if you are a writer anywhere else?

It is also kind of you to share useful information Plumwish07.
I did notice that you talk often about daily life... but I did not find you to be overly opinionated.

I think 'hot topics' are the ones where most normal people will be able to relate to.
From my experience, life, relationships, kids, parenting get a lot of responses.
I do not start too many topics...but most of the ones I start are topics that come to me from the things around me...something I read or see and I think it's a good topic to discuss.
I find myself responding a lot to topics on parenting. One of my really mundane topics got way too many repsonses than I expected....while some of my more serious ones didn't get many. It also depends on how much exposure your topics get (more people on your friend list?)....and also if the topics you start will interest more people on your friend list than others. Once you get more responses from your friends, the discussion will come into the hot topics list and more people who are not on your friend list will view it..and respond.
It will take a little time...but you'll soon get the hang of what's 'hot' and what's not.
All the best!

It's never been easy for me to post topics but when I do, it's mostly about what is or has happened in my own life. Some questions are generic while others are about my son and family situations. I post in all sorts of interests.
On occasion I have found a few discussions in the local newspaper and have posted those on here too.
It comes naturally for some and for others it takes time. WHen i first joined all I did was post responses. I started with one discussion which led to another and now I post about five a week at most.

I post 5 of my own discussions a week (at most) but probably answer a 100 or more. I have been here over a year now.

I post discussions and responses in terms of my interests. Of course, some posts made me satisfied and some not. generally, I don't know for sure how to express my idea clearer and more understandable. I am trying to response after reading through others' responses in case I wrote any wrong words.
I have delivered my posts several times. They all came from my experiences. I am a good thinker. I prefer to think the normal things in my spare time, not only people, life, news but also spirit and science. Thus, to suggest a subject is not a tough task to me.

It looks like you are one of those brave and good people here who speaks more than one language and writes in more than one language.... as a person who only speaks English, I look at you and the bilingual and trilingual people here with great respect.
It sounds like you have a lot of interests which is a good thing... I'm glad that it is easy for you to come up with good subject matter.

How do you tie in your personal experiences with that of the readers? Do you traditionally have a long lead in or only one sentence lead in to the question.

you simply have to have some sort of an imagination inside of your head, that is where i get all of the topics that i start, inside of y own head!!!

I'm glad that you have an immagination. That is indeed a good thing. Does immagination ever fail you? What triggers it?
