I don't do you have to bargain every time you buy something in your country. In china you bargaining is quite normal. But you never bargain at a super market. Here is a funny story I 'd like to share with you.
My friend John is from American. He always bought something at a very hight price ,then I told him,he have to bargain, and 50 percent off is quiet often. Then one day he went to the supermarket to buy a shirt. When checking out,he bargained and requested 50 percent off. Of course the salesman didn't agree, just remember it's a supermarket! He went back very madly and told me about it.I could help laughing at him,I said:Oh,man! You never bargain at a supermarket!
Didn't you me that you need bargain in China? He stared at me looked puzzled.
Yes,yes, but not at a supermarket, the price there can't not change.
Funny, huh?Did this ever happened to you? Do you bargain ?Or do you need to bargain at your country?

Depends on the supermarket. Some get wise to people choosing certain times of day to avoid full price goods and will do it randomly. Hot chickens almost always before closing, and the day before a public holiday is great if you freeze bread to buy in bulk.

hahahah thats a good one, I would do no good in China or any of the places you have to bargain I just can't do it, we have garage sales here and most people bargain but I just can't if a thing I want has a price on it and I think it is fair then I buy it if it doesn't have a price on it at all I usually just walk away... I just can't bargain, silly me..

Hi gxnfly,
There aren't so many opportunities to bargain for stuff in Australia, though there are lots of open air markets on weekends where you can argue for a better price.
Most products here are sold through formal retail stores which don't delegate authority to employees to negotiate with customers on price.
BUT some stores do also allow for negotiating a price, especially where the sales person might be paid on commission and so has some flexibility to achieve a sale.
Another place where the seller might be open to negotiate a price is car sales yards - especially with second-hand cars.
But I do agree with you - the supermarkets are probably the last place where you can bargain for a better price.

I am from India and it depends on where one is shopping whether he/she should bargain or not. For example, there are some shops where good bargainers are able to get even 75% off. But no bargaining is accepted at shopping malls, fixed rate shops and ofcourse supermarkets
I don't like bargaining because am not at all good at it. I am used to buying things from supermarket and fixed rate shops.
