The battle between the "Big 3" in the online mail realm really interests me because it's amazing how over the years I have given focus to all 3: Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail. Initially I started out using a service called Visto because it offered 15 MB of space soon after its retirement I started using Microsoft's Hotmail. I think it offered something like 3-5 MB of space and almost everyone I knew was using it at the time. Around the same time I opened up a Yahoo Mail account, which I still really like using because of the simplicity in its interface. Finally when Gmail came out I got myself an invitation almost immediately and didn't think I was going to get much use out of it. However that was completely the opposite since I use Gmail more frequently than I do Yahoo Mail or Hotmail now. Below is a graph of my estimated email usage over the last few years and you can totally see the shift in power from Hotmail to Gmail.

I have been used my Hotmail address since 1997. It's a long time, isn't? This is also my first email address and I am satisfied with Hotmail most of the time. Besides, Hotmail has larger storage than before. It's already enough for me. Furthermore, I can receive my emails by POP3 and that's great.

I have a various number of email accounts for different purposes. I have a yahoo account from when I was in Kansas, an aol from when I started college , a hotmail becuase it was free and if I decided to change I would always have it, an inbox for family only my mom specifically , my gmail for everyday use and because it has the best filters. LOL!!! I happen to use my gmail the most because it has so many good features like chat that I don't have to download a seperate messanging service that loads up everytime I go to turn on the computer. LOL!!! I have to say that out of all the time I do spend on the internet and using it that gmail is one of the better mail choices. LOL!!!

The only reason why most people are using Gmail is the email capacity...When hotmail and yahoo mail existed, the capacities were so little....Not to mention, there were paid versions of hotmail an yahoo mail which offer higher capacities and securities..
And the best thing is when Gmail came up, it offer such a huge capacity of 1GB that it just sort of killed yahoo and hotmail...
But even then, I don't really enjoy the label function of Gmail...I still like sorting according to folders and therefore Yahoo mail is still my first choice and not Gmail...
