Yes, it quite possible is for most. My wife and I (without trying to sound like the "royal we"), endeavour to give each other the space to be the way we are. I was once told by an astrologer friend that he saw our relationship as one of growth and development, not always comfortable but not meant to be. Not always the way we want it, but more about the way we need it. :-)

Hi Derek_a I was just reading through the responses before I responded on this one and I have read what you have said and with the word acceptance it sums up everything really that I was gonna say. 100% agree with you. The only other thing I would add is that to have friends you need to be a friend. I am in my forties now and am still best friends with the girl I met my first day at school when I was 5, there are others that have been lost along the way, but I love my friends as I do my family. Ellie :D

A friend or friendship to me, is someone who is always there for you, no matter what. They will always be there in good times and the bad times. they will offer you a shoulder to cry on and their ears for listening. They will not talk about you behind your back or use you either.
My so-called friends in the past never viewed friendship like that or they would have done all of the things I listed above. they used me for what they could get from me and kicked me to the curb and ran their mouth about me like I was a dog or a no good person and that is not true at all. I was their friend but they never treated me like one.

it is as though some people are ashamed of me, push me to the side when something more interesting comes along

That is the same with me. I think I am invisible to most people. They use me and do not care about my feelings either. They look at me like I am nothing. they also act like they are better than me. They pretend to be my friend and treat me like a dog all at the same time. I think people are ashamed to be around me also. I think they just do it to make themselves look better. They make me feel like i am not worthy of friendship. I do not have any friends because of this and I will be 37 years old. They judge me as soon as they lay eyes on me, most times. soem judge me just by the sound of my voice. I do not know what the problem is, but I do know I am tired of trying to make friends and I am tired of the way they treat me. My heart and nerves cannot take it anymore. I do not even give people a chance to hurt me anymore. I am so done with it.

ohhhhh my friend i have been where you are now. Now i have become bitter and twisted. I cant let anyone close, it somehow stops them being able to hurt me, as sooner or later they all do

Friendship is very important to me. When i'm happy,i'd like to share with them, maybe it's a good movie,a nice song and so on.And when I have trouble or I'm sorrow ,they always try their best to help me.I appreciate them! And when they have troubles,I'll do the same thing!I love my friends.I can't live without them!

A friendship to me is having each others back at all times. It's sad to hear that you dont experience that.Friends are a group of people that are brutally honest, fiercly loyal, always availible ever mindful and completely loving. And i've been blessed to have a few of them.

What a wonderful topic... To me a friend is a person who will stand beside you no matter how bad things get, a friend is a person who will listen and NOT judge you for things you have a done, they will give you a shoulder to cry on when need, they will be there for you no matter... A friend is something you can trust completely no matter what... You might even call this a best friend... But most people that have friends are like this... And yes my friends do see the friendship in the same way... When someone say hey I need to talk I will drop what ever I might be doing if anything and listen to them, not judge them just listen.. That is what a true friend would do.. Sure there are going to be people that are going want to be friends and talk but you tend to know who really want to be or not.. People that say and don't act on it are friends you know you can't tell personal things too and know you can't go to them when you are in a tough spot, When you turn around you will see the real friend right behind you ready to listen... That is what I call a friend..

Friendship is clairvoyant. It is a bond between two people who dare each other to be real.
