Who thinks bartering is a good way of helping each other?

Hubby and i were talking about bartering this morning,we were saying that in some parts of the UK people actually set up bartering groups..exchanging their skills for anothers skills....Have you ever heard of any group like this?..if so do you think its a good idea..or maybe it would sound a little bit old fashioned to you?

I have done much bartering in the past. I put a bathroom on for a guy who had a sawmill, and traded my labor for enough lumber to build a 12x28 foot addition on my house. At the time there was no way I could ever afford that much lumber. And he needed his bathroom put in.....worked out well for both of us.
