I know its hard for some people to learn how to use a chopstick when eating in a Chinese or Japanese restaurant. Well I had my first learning experience in learning to use a chopstick when my mom brought home a wooden one. Then she was able to travel to china and taught us siblings how to use it. Now I can say that I am quite good in using it as I can out win my half cousin who is half Japanese. It is quite useful when dining in Japanese and Chinese restaurant and I have also taught my son to use it.
So have you learned to use chopsticks? Do you use it when eating in a Chinese or Japanese restaurant?

I love sushi but have to wait until we go to Birmingham in the West Midlands. There is a sushi bar in Selfridge's, this is the nearest one to where I live

I have known how to use chopsticks since I was 5 years olds. I asked the waitress at a Chinese restaurant to teach me how. My hubby loves to use chopsticks and will only eat Chinese food with chopsticks.

My friends taught me how to use them when we went to the Chinese buffet, because I was the only person there who didn't know how. One of my friends was half Japanese, and her grandmother had taught her how to use them when she was very young. I'm not very good at it, though, and my fiance (who also learned how to use chopsticks fairly young) is always trying to help me learn better. I can use them for sushi, but that's about it.

Well, for most people, its a matter of practicing how to use the chopsticks. For me, I've literally know how to use to use chopsticks when I was born (I'm Vietnamese) - ya so no big surprise there. When you use chopsticks, I would say anytime because their quite effective when it comes to eating.

I learned in the restaurant I had a waiter show me how to use them. He was quite accommodating and quite patience I must say.

I learned how to eat with chopsticks by practicing with wooden chopsticks. I watch other people using them then I imitate how they eat. That's how I learned using chopsticks. It was hard at first, but I got the hang of it.

No I can't use them but my husband can pretty much. He's tried to show me how but I can't get the gist of it so I'll stick with a fork which is something I know how to use quite well. lol

I live in one of Asian countries and in my area there are a lot of Chinese or Japanese food stalls or restaurants.
Well back then I couldn’t use chopsticks; my parents ever taught me using them but later I finally gave some personal practicing even to just pick some erasers or other little things that were similar with foods in size or shape.
When I finally entered high school, we often came to some Chinese restaurants and that was when I finally got the stable grip on chopsticks.
From that moment, I had even started using chopsticks to eat some instant noodles at home, until these days.
Perhaps I have been using chopsticks too much, because I start feeling strange when I pick up some fork for eating noodles nowadays.

My boyfriend! He taught me that, and it quite embarrassing for the first time, because i accidentally drop the food on table in this exclusive Chinese restaurant. Anyway, practice makes perfect. Good luck!
