Whose are the shoes

I have just counted 11 pairs of shoes or boots in our hallway! On closer inspection it turns out that they all belong to one beloved female relative. She will be tidying them up soon. In contrast I only own 4 pairs. Are you a shoe and fashion boot person? Do you wear a different pair each day/time you go out. How much is a reasonable spend on your footwear. What do you do with the old ones. Give them away, throw them out, or just leave them to fester.

Wow, that's a lot of shoes. A whole 4 pairs! I own precisely ONE pair of shoes, TWO pairs of "girlie boots", ONE pair of high boots, THREE pairs of trainers (if you include the pair I am wearing which I actually commandeered from my other half!) The only reason I own so many is because I never throw them away. I also believe I have several pairs of sandals and slippers (that's if they haven't walked themselves to the bin.) On a daily basis, I will switch between a couple of pair of trainers. It was, until recently, usually just the one pair, but they got ruined in the rain and my dad kept them so I couldn't wear them any more! My shoes are blue shiny ones which only come out on special occassions like rock concerts and that sort of thing! If I'm going somewhere that won't let you in if you're wearing trainers, I wear my zip up ankle boots that my other half got me for my birthday. As for all my other footwear, I honestly do not know why it still exists! My ideal amount to spend on a pair of shoes depends on what they are for really. I generally won't spend more than £10 on anything but my partner did go all the way up to £16.99 because he said I needed them! If they are walking boots or shoes then I might spend a bit more. But a £10 pair of trainers will do me fine. The ones I'm wearing (the commandeered ones) are really comfortable, they've survived my partner's feet and now they are somehow surviving mine!

I just thought of something I wanted to add. This is another case of "which one's the female?" in my house. I can see two pairs of shoes, one pair of trainers and one pair of slippers belonging to my other half. He must be wearing another pair of shoes or trainers because he's at work. I'm sure he has at least 2 more pairs upstairs plus one more pair of slippers and he had a pair of Doc's which my cousin gave to me! I wouldn't be surprised if he's still got other old pairs at his mum's!

You sound very conservative with your shoes. My wife only buys shoes when she absolutely needs them I struggle to persuade her to buy them unless they have worn out. She wore a dress the other day and pinched our daughter's heels to wear with them. I have one pair black, one pair brown, one pair dock and one pair walking boot. I should have been better in my classification. I also own a pair of slippers! I don't train so I don't need trainers. It's the old man in me. I have been known to spend over £100 on a pair of shoes, but that was back in the days before wife and child. I think that my brown pair were £19, but I got some discount because the girl that sold them to me was a friend of my daughter. I used to have many more pairs but got rid of them when we had our house redecorated a month or two ago.

Just seen your rider. Men do like their shoes too. We just get into trouble because they tend to smell and get left lying about.

I have a lot of shoes, p1kef1sh. I love shoes. All kinds of shoes. I have one pair of heels from before the time that I gave away approx. 35 pairs of them, after my second ankle break, and the subsequent steel plate and screws I now live with, and anyway, the ones I'm talking about are probably 25 years old and they're just such a piece of art, I keep them, always will, and occasionally even wear them. And I wish I would have kept some of the platforms I used to wear in the 70s. I had some magnificent ones! Now, I wear mostly flats, because of the ankle, but they're good ones. Flat can be sexy and dressy as well as functional and sensible. I also wear some heels, although lower than I used to, boots, usually flat, except my cowboy boots, which have the typically 2 1/2 inch heel. I also have a lot of crocs, which is just about all I wear in the summer or if I'm going to be needing a lot of comfort. My shoes are everywhere, too. I'm very lackadaisical about putting them where they're supposed to be. Both hubby and I trip over them regularly, but he never says a thing, just continues on his way, bless his heart. Oh, and I will often change shoes during the day, one pair for day, and another for evening. One for working, another for after. Sometimes I wear heels when I'm going out, but carry a pair of flats to wear on the way home. Yup, shoes are a big part of my life. Just part of who I am, I guess.

After reading the other responses, I'd like to add one thing. I don't wear sneakers, trainers, athletic shoes, or whatever you want to call them. I don't like them, they aren't comfortable for me, and I haven't bought a pair in many years. I don't imagine I ever will again. And I love sandals! If they're flats, I like just a couple of thin straps on them, almost like I'm barefoot. One up between the toes and one around the ankle. And feet can look so pretty in sandals, I just love them.

Oh my, I guess it WILL be hard to recognize me as an Amurcan, p1ke. I don't own a pair of sweatpants, or a roll-neck sweater, whatever that is, although I assume it's what we'd call a turtle-neck, and as I said, I don't wear trainers. I'd most likely, as a tourist walking around the city, be wearing a pair of crocs or ballet flats, leggings (black) and either a black or white shirt or tunic. I'd most likely be carrying whatever light jacket I had, but it wouldn't be a tan raincoat. yuck. And your faith in womankind should be restored, if shoes can do it for you, darlin, 'cause I do have some stilettos, of course. I love shoes that help show off my legs and make me feel pretty and sexually attractive.

If you ever come over here we are going to have a tough time recognizing you as Amurcan. The typical US female tourist (over 25) wears a taupe belted raincoat, blue sweat pants, roll neck sweater and bright white trainers! Now if you don't have trainers then we'll think that you are Belgian and speak French at you. LOL. What a lot of shoes. But my faith in womankind to invest heavily in such things is now restored. Bet you've got some stilettos somewhere too.

Oh I have loads of shoes. Actually I don't know how many pairs I have but I have six full shoe racks and still some left over. Boots are my weakness though and I know exactly how many pairs of them I have but am too embarassed to say it lol. It's a ridiculous number anyway! I do wear a different pair of shoes or boots every day although I have favourites that I wear more often than others. As for how much I spend on them - probably too much. I will buy cheap shoes, I'm not a shoe snob or anything like that, but the amount I'm prepared to pay depends on how much I want them. The cheapest pair of shoes I have cost a fiver, the most expensive cost more than £300 (well they're boots actually). As for the old ones if I've worn them a lot I'll usually throw them out. If I haven't worn them much I'll give them away or if no-one I know wants them and they're in good enough condition I'll either sell them on eBay or sometimes I give them to one of the local charity shops if they need stuff to sell.

Fireman Sam lol!! Yes I agree Uggs are not the most attractive footwear, I don't own a pair anyway. Ok just between you and I it's erm ..... 76! Yes I know I know - no-one needs that many pairs of boots and storage is a nightmare. Just as well I have a spare room. But I've just got rid of quite a lot - I have a cut-off point of 100. Once I get near that number shame sets in and I start getting rid of some lol.

Come on now - how many pairs of boots do you own? You know that confession is good for the soul. I love women in boots, neither of mine like them much, although my daughter does wear these Ugg things. Makes her look like Fireman Sam! LOL. Yes, she's not amused. You can buy shoes so cheaply these days. When we lived in London there was a place in our high st that practically gave them away. My sister in law had virtually the whole shop in her house!

Only 11 pairs? Must be nice! Try a house with 3 kids, one adult; all in Canada during the spring. Why does the season matter? Because in one day, you could easily have to go from wearing winter boots to rain boots to shoes. It's nuts. I have a shoe rack with 6 shelves on it in the front hall. Everyone gets their own shelf (I take 2, because I'm mom lol), and the top shelf is for drying hats and mits during the winter, and flip flops or water shoes in the summer. Of course, boots don't fit on the shelves, because they're too high. So for now, the winter boots are on the floor beside, and the rain boots are in the closet. Soon, once all the snow is melted (this week??? I HOPE!!! ), I can pack the snow boots up, and replace them with the rain boots. As for shoes, me, I have a lot of pairs. But I only wear a few regularly, and keep those on my shelves in the front hallway area. The others I have in my bedroom closet. I really ought to get rid of most of them, because I don't wear them at all, hardly. Most are in great shape, so I'll donate them to the local Diabetes Association (they come to my house to pick up things like that). As for shoes that are old and obviously worn away, they get tossed in the garbage. I don't understand why people keep around ratty old shoes that can't be worn anyways. Makes no sense.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
30 Mar 08
We've had racks but no one, including me used them much. It's so much easier to leave them lying in the hallway. Grrr. I can appreciate the weather problem. Boots to and from school, then shoes when you are there etc. Good idea to donate your old, good condition shoes though. I am afraid that we are not so good. They do tend to get thrown away, although there is a bin for recycling shoes at one of the supermarkets and we have occasionally put shoes in there.

LOL P1ke, you just had me checking the footwear in my hallway. What a mess! I counted 3 pairs of work boots for my soon to be ex, 2 pairs of running shoes for my son, and one pair of shoes for myself. The hall is small, and now I know where the boot smell is coming from! I'll be so glad to see them removed to the RV! LOL I buy my shoes already broken in. I have a new pair of heels I bought for 'dressing up' but rarely get a chance to use them. The last time I had them on with nothing more than lipstick, they turned the soon to be ex off, so I have put them away in a shoebox. They will however, be making the trip to England! LOL

Know this one well, have just looked around and can see 6 pairs in the lounge alone and I know there are some of the landing and plenty in the hallway and some by back door, only two pairs are mine, the wellies by back door and the ones I took off earlier in the hallway. I think it is a teenage girl thing, shoes and handbags. I personally have a few pairs in the bottom of my wardrobe for going out but most days are either in my work shoes or low heeled boots. If shoes are in good enough condition when I'm fed up with them will pass them on or donate to charity, if not I'll sling them. Ellie :D

Handbags? What is this concept? I have one of those "messenger bag" thingamies and I did have a little bag which broke. A handbag is no good to me. If stuff don't fit in me pockets, it ain't worth taking! Or if I am going somewhere where I will need more than my keys and purse, I'll need a bigger bag. I liked my old little bag that broke. It was really small looking but I could fit nappies, babywipes, beaker and spare clothes in it!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
30 Mar 08
I think that they breed. First off there is just the one pair. Then another pair and so on. Suddenly your whole house becomes a trip hazard! I am not so sure about handbags. Certainly there are a few lying about. But it's always my pockets that are picked to fill them.

I am very much into shoes...and have too many pairs of shoes. My husband teases me all the time saying that I have more shoes than clothes. I have different pairs for different attires....saris need a bit of heel...and pretty indian ones....the salwars...hmmm...depends...for daily wear I prefer pretty flats....and if it's an occassion, I need heels. then I have the ones I wear to work...then I have my sneakers to go with my jeans....then a few pairs that I get when it catches my fancy. I sometimes give away old shoes....but most of them I have with me.

I have the very basic when it comes to clothes and such and especially shoes. I get either black or white and one of each style and color. For instance, I will have a black and white pair of heels, flats, boots, and sandals. That is ideal for me. I do not like a whole lot of shoes. I can only wear one pair at a time anyway. Most of the time when I am done with my shoes, the are ready for the trash. I take very good care of my shoes, so once they go, they are really gone.

Well, I sure can't just wander down to walmart and pick up some cheap shoes - never have been, much worse now. they aren't custom made, but they have to have lots of support, large toe boxes (my former roommmate used to tell me that my shoes were ugly) but you know, I'm still on my feet and she's on a walker - granted its her knees that have gone out but she weighs 400 lbs! I also have inserts in them to also help

LOl p1key darlin I can feel your frustration through the screen! I am not shoe obsessed thankfully (I save that for pyjamas) especially now as I can only wear flat shoes! I have some boots and shoes in my wardrobe upstairs that I cannot bear to throw away as I am hopeful I will be able to wear shoes with heels again at some point in the future! I have 2 pairs of trainers, a pair of black shoes and a pair of white shoes oh yeah and a pair of flat brown shoes I got for my nieces wedding last year but they are in the wardrobe out of the way too! When I was younger I used to spend a lot of money on shoes but I don't do that anymore! My daughters school shoes cost over £50 but I had to get her properly fitted as she was wearing orthotic insoles! Other than that I wouldn't pay that much for shoes - specially as my family are all very hard on shoes! xxx

If I could afford a bunch of shoes and boots I would buy them every day. :) Seeing as I'm a student with 2 kids I can't. I do have special shoes or boots when I go out and some gym shoes and Birkenstock clogs which I'm addicted. All in all I have about 10 pairs of shoes total which isn't a lot for a woman. I love shoes but don't really own that many LOL. I have one pair of sneakers still in good condition, 2 pairs of flat shoes which I wear most of the time I'm out and about, 1 heel boot, 1 dress shoe and several jandals/sandals for summer. The most I have ever spent on shoes was $70 and that was for my sneakers that were on sale. I don't think I have ever bought a pair of shoes over $100. My son has more shoes than me though. I have given his old ones away to family overseas.

*guilty look* I own over 40 pairs of shoes. 3 or 4 pairs are for work and the rest are for going out. 10 of the pairs are to wear with Indian clothes and are not practical to wear down the pub as they are too dressy but they are in colours to match my glitziest Indian outfits. They cost anything from £5 for the cheapest up to £60 or £70 but I rarely spend that much on a pair of shoes. My husband on the other hand has about 5 or 6 pairs of shoes/boots at the most and the cheapest pair cost £150 and the most expensive about £400 - he's a bit of a designer victim and only buys clothes or shoes with famous names. I think he has a pair of Birkenstock sandals for the summer which were really cheap (for him) at £35! I am not bothered about brands, as long as I like the look of shoes and they go with my outfits I will buy/wear them! Old shoes I tend to throw out if they're really worn out or give them to charity if they still have some wear in them :)
@p1kef1sh (45681)
31 Mar 08
Honesty is the best policy and confession is good for you. I am intrigued by the fact that you have separate shoes to wear with Indian clothes. I shall show my ignorance here, but bear with me; better still educate me. I thought that Indian women wore Saris. I was not aware that there was more than that. But I suppose that they come in different colours and designs and your shoes need to match them. Whenever I have met Indian ladies in traditional dress I must admit to not having noticed their feet. But for some reason open toed sandals spring to mind. Don't know why. My mouth hangs open at your husband's purchases. I have spent over £100 when I was young and keen to make a good impression, but £400. Wow. If I spend a tenth of that now I think that I have bought something special. Good for him. Why not indulge yourself if you can.

I have the most shoes in our household. My husband has a pair of smart black shoes for work, a pair of brown boots and a pair of casual black boots as well as trainers for the gym (he also has two old pairs of shoes which need to go!). The children have one pair of shoes, one pair of wellies and one pair of slippers each. I have one pair of black court shoes, a pair of suede slip ons, a pair of blue canvas pumps, a pair of black boots, some black trainers and slippers. My husband spends a lot on shoes/boots but gets good quality that will last. I tend to buy a good all round shoe when my last pair wear out my smarter shoes are just worn when the occasion necessitates.

Shoes are the second part of a person I look at. Eyes, then shoes. They compliment whatever you are wearing too. I don't think that the number of pairs that you have mean that much really, but we spend so much time on our feet that we should at least invest in something comfortable and smart. But I go the sales too. Shoe prices can be horrific.
