I actually got to see an Acer Gemstone before, and though I like the design: it's solid, and the lowest-spec model is pretty affordable, for a branded laptop, I don't like the weight! I am already complaining about my 5-lb Macbook, and it's really a pain. I would like to go for lightweight stuff, stuff like the eeePC... Or the Macbook Air!! Woohoo! Now THAT'S a laptop! But the Acer Gemstone is pretty much a solid rig. I like it, for a PC laptop. :) Toshiba, Asus, Sony, Acer, and Fujitsu are the only four laptop brands that I would consider, from the PC market. for OEMs, I am thinking of the Arima. But since I tried the Mac, I don't think I'm looking back anytime soon. Might get an OEM for my daughter though. Coz I know they (I have two) will need laptops, and someone may need to have a Windows/Linux rig in our family. But then again, I may well just get a snappy desktop for my software craziness and get the daughters their own Macs. No use buying a thing they'll just break. :p Macs RULE! sorry, fangurl here. heheh!
