Well it has nearly been one full week for me now without a smoke. I am starting to smell a lot of things that I had never smelled really while I smoked. I also have a great taste now as well. I dunno if that's good as things are strange tasting to me now but I can taste them now. My lungs are still clogged as I am still couching up gunk. But I am not waking up in the middle of the night hacking and wheezing like when I smoked. I also am not cranky as much as I have been in my past attempts to wuit smoking. That's always a good thing for my wife and others near me. I hope this time I stop for good. Also as far as the caffiene reduction I am attempting, So far I am doing well there as well. Today I have had 4 cups all day. I have been averging ;less than a pot a day for the ;last week as well. I am feeling better even though my sleeping pattern has changed drastically due to the loss of all that caffiene I used to injest. Overall, I am feeling a lot better. I now am also walking about 2 miles minimum daily. Today (Sunday) I think I covered maybe 5 miles in 3 different walks total. Thanks all and have a great day/evening.

That's awesome, keep up the great work. I was in the hospital for over 4 months and didn't of course smoke all that time... I wasn't home 15 minutes before I lit up a butt and I came home with a trachea tube. I wish I didn't do it now but it was in 2000. I consider quitting at times but just don't want to at the time. I have been losing weight and don't want to jeopardize that...lol Good excuse, huh?
Hopefully there will be relief from back pain soon and I will be able to walk more. Right now I can barely walk from the car to the store and get in an electric cart. Congratulations, Blessed Be, Mari

I've smoked for 45 years and was always amazed when I get a ophysical that I have clean lungs. I have smoked 3 packs a day for the last 20+ years as well so it's a miracle I don't have cancer or emphyzema. I also have a bad back. (DDD) Not fun at all. I drive or sit for 45 minutes and my lower body is numb from this. Anyhow I think I may finally be ready to QUIT, not just stop. I hope so anyhow. So far so good anyhow. Thanks also. Hope ya feel better etc soon.

I am still struggling to quit smoking. I have maybe for a day. I was down to one a day. I was using the patch. I think that I will go back to using the patch. I seem to have a bit of luck with that. How do you handle the cravings?
I have heard that the smelling and tasting gets better with quiting. I have never noticed a problem with my smelling, but my 'taster' has been off for years now.
I finally got my walk in today. I walked about 1/2 mile. I just might do it again.

I smoked wearing the patch in the past. The nicotiene wasn't the problem. It's the habit of smoking actually that is my problem.
I don't crave the smoke, I crave the actions is all.

That is GREAT news Grandpa Bob. I'm also trying to cut down on my caffeine intake and not doing too bad. Just get more headaches so I find myself sleeping a lot (which I did over the weekend).

Congrats to you. Here is to a healthier Grandpa BOB!!The gunk just means your lungs have started to repair themselves. The human body is amazing. Getting more sleep may be why you are less cranky. Excerise, that's a good thing too. I have been told it may speed up how your lungs react. Me, I stick to the treadmill. I applaud you. My father was diagnosed with emphysemaalmost 2 years ago, and is still smoking. Think it would do any good to email this post? Nope I forgot, he cannpt use computers. Keep it up! I'll be rooting for ya!

Good for you! You are a good role model. Keep up the good work.
I've had clients who wanted to quit smoking and succeeded. One of the techniques that worked for them was to use the affirmation "I am a non-smoker" several times a day. For those who were at the want-to stage it helped to say to themselves "I'm becoming a non-smoker". Our subconscious mind only knows what we tell it. But it is very powerful. So tell it what you want.

Hi,grandpa Bob. Long time no see. Good for you. I heard a lot of people suffered from those uncomfort when they began to quit. I don't know how to encourage you. Just hang on. Remember that it is good to your health, to your family, to your life. With these beliefs I think you can finally make it. I wait for that day when we make high five.

Congratulations, Grandpa Bob, and I hope that you'll keep up the good work! Maybe I will even become inspired to clean up some of my bad habits. It's awful when we know full well that we need to make changes in our lifestyle to improve our health but we fail to do so. Just take it one day at a time and you will reach your goal.

That's great grandpa Bob!! I hope to join you some day.... What is your secret? How did you do it? Please don't tell me cold turkey because that just doesn't work for me. I just don't have that kind of will power. Do tell!! And I wish you the best of luck!

thats right,i support you, smoking is bad to your health, most of the smoker smoked was that they smoking looks so cool, and hadn't think about the effect to their healthy, maybe some of them will repent,i hold thay can quit smoking too.i have a friend,he is just 18years old,and he had smoking more than 2 years,we advise he to quit that many times, but he didn't lisen to us,and we told him that he can't smoking inside the room,
smoking also bad to the people who around the smoker,
and the affect to their health maybe worse than the smoker,

Way to go, Grandpa Bob. You really are trying to improve yourself. Good for you! If I can quit smoking, so can you. I'm off the Chantix and doing great. I bet your sleeping alot better as well w/o all the caffine in your system. That walking is helping you as well, more than you may realize. Keep it up, Grandpa Bob. We know you can do it.

You tend to impress me ceaselessly, Grandpa bob. I have always been a non-smoker. But quitting smoking after 45 years of addiction is something worth a round of applause. I'm trying to cut on junk food and shed some kilos but it's taking the hell out of me. I gravitate constantly back to eating junkies after succeeding for a week or so.
However, I must commend you for quitting smoking and it is nice to hear that you have seen improvements healthwise so soon. Well done and keep it up, my friend. Let me conclude with this inspiring quote: Successful People are successful because they are willing to do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do - Paul Michell

Awww shucks. It is not an easy chore to say the least. It's only been a week so it's not a sure thing at all just yet. I will also have to cut junk food etc from my diet. I should have done that years ago but never did. Thanks also friend for the support and encouragement and especially for the praise etc. Greatly appreciated and especially needed. Thanks again.

That is really good, well done, I would say that if you have come this far then you are more likely to succeed, the longer you go without it, the stronger you are to deal with the cravings if you need too. You will see such big differences over the next few months, it is brilliant too how different everything is when you do not smoke. Plus you can also smell another smoker at a 100 paces and they really stink. I hope you keep it up!!
