Moslems now more numerous than Catholics

United States
March 30, 2008 4:20pm CST
A recent news post up by Yahoo claims that a Vatican newspaper states that Moslems now outnumber Catholics in world population. A few reasons were cited but are generally not yet commented upon. How should it affect Catholics? Is it a concern that must be addressed? Or should it not bother us much?

As a Muslim I consider this as aan Islamic prophecy being fulfilled. Let us forget all hatred and live peacefully together.

I agree. We should shun all hatred and mutually coexist in a spirit of humility, cooperation, forgiveness, sympathy and respect. In that way, we can work for a better world and leave the grim pages of our history with terrorisms of all sort behind. I think it's very possible, if only we start believing that there is always a way for us to compliment our belief systems with mutual respect.

I believe that because of the recent events that had happened in today's world, Moslems are being looked in a different way. They are regarded as people who are unreasonable because of a select few who used their religion to kill people who are not from their denomination. But not all are like that. What i think is that the Moslem themselves should try to change this image. Not for anything else but for their own good too. I believe that Moslems or Catholics or whatever your religious affiliation is, we should work together for a better world. I know it sounded "cheesy" but peace will not be with us if we don't start doing this today. I am a Catholic and proud to be one. In my heart, I know, that my religion is calling me to be non judgemental of people no matter what their background is. I was brought up believing that each and every person is a child of God whether or not they believe it. This news is like a wake up call for everyone that we should not let our religion divide us.

Why should it bother anyone? We are all people what does it matter who anyone believe in? I don't dislike you because you are catholic and I don't dislike moslems for being moslems :-)

I am not bothered by this one.. i am neither a catholic or a muslim. We all have our choices, paths we want to follow and we have to be respected for that. I guess the catholic church is alarmed by this, cause they are losing the catholics to baptists, adventists, and even to islams... there must be something in catholicism that is causing people to change religions...

I wouldn't worry so much about it. Unless they start running countries according to the Koran. Remember the Taliban.

Pretty much all nations that are predominantly muslim populations are run by religious doctrine, aka the Koran. There are some exceptions, although greatly outnumbered.

It need not alarm us... Let us continue to do what the Church is called to do.
