India is a country of many language. The fact that an educated Indian generally speaks 3 languages, you should understand that there could be some errors in ones reply. Do not judge whole country by reading some answers on a web portal. Each state in India uses different language for every day matter. Hindi is the language that links people from one state to another and English is the one that links Indian to the world. Each country's English is different. Take USA and England for example. Do you mean to say that one is using broken English and one is not? No.. It is different. And so is India.
Few of them are...
Assamese
Bengali
Bodo
Dogri
English
Gujarati
Hindi
Kannada
Kashmiri
Konkani
Maithili
Malayalam
Manipuri
Marathi
Nepali
Oriya
Punjabi
Sanskrit
Santhali
Sindhi
Tamil
Telugu
Urdu
many more .......

Hindi is the main language of north India, and it is a beautiful language if spoken gracefully with right accent.
I just love Hindi and also speak it quite well. Besides Hindi, I can also speak, Marathi and a bit of Gujarat. I have many south Indian friends and they are very nice, but unfortunately I cannot speak any south -india language like, Tamil, malayalam etc......... Also Bengali is a very sweet language , infact , India is full of different regional language which are very pleasing to ears if really spoken well. So which Indian language do you know......I am sure you know at least Hindi......

I know malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and can understand telugu and Bengali. All the languages are easier to learn if you put your mind to it. All the best
