that's a trend to many kids in our neighborhood too! when my nephew and niece plays with water bombs, i get irked actually because they would bring it inside the house and wet the floor which i don't like to happen. .

I guess their gang water wars are too big in scale that the outside neighborhood isn't enough and that the insides of your house would often be among the casualties...
I wish I could call up my old friends and do it again, now that we're big, we might as well have bigger water pistols and plenty of water balloons to throw

Hehehe, if your all into it, no one would be embarrassed, I guess..
I would pour ice cold water into my water balloons and have them drenched with red crepe paper so when they hit on targets, I wonder if they'll keep on dodging or intentionally catch them

Water and kids go together at least from what I've seen. I know when I was a kid I loved playing in the water and I know my niece does as well. I loved playing in puddles and then in the rain when I was older. Guess when I reached high school it seemed to fade but I still liked to play in the pool then.
When my niece was little if it was a puddle it was made for jumping in. Now that she's a bit older she loves to play in the rain and get soaked. She hasn't grown out of it completely yet.

Hehe we used to make mud pies when I was little. Half the time after making them we'd throw them at each other and become a real mess. My mother usually didn't like it when we did that.

i think so too. i think most kids love to play with water and everything else with water like mud. when i was a kid i used to make sand balls. i would gather sand from the lake shore and wet it with lake water and form it into balls. a lot of kids nowadays still play that kind of thing near the lake.

Hi dear secretbear, water play and sand play are always the favorite games of almost every kid including me of course.
During my preschool stage I was living by the side of a small orchard. There was a small river about 2 km away behind my house. I could see women washing clothes and some bathing in the water. Some naked little children and some older ones were playing and splashing in the water. I quite envied them and eagerly hoped that I was one of them. But my mom forbad me to go near the river unless someone who was good in swimming to accompany me there. Finally I had got what I wished as my cousin brother visited us and had holidays here for a couple of weeks. I then had the opportunity to learn to swim in the river almost everyday and enjoyed the fun of splashing water to each other in the meanwhile. Thought I liked playing water splashing, my little hands always couldn’t fight the two big palms so I had to surrender all the time.

Hi dear secretbear, pleasant and beautiful remembrance of a kid could never fade though it had happened long long ago. So I think it is nice to let our children to experience some events which could become their unforgettable fascinating memories. By the way thanks for the best response awarded. hi ikbooi! that's a really nice childhood story you got there. it was a good thing that you were able to play in the river with your cousin. i understand your mother for forbidding you to play in the river. it can really be dangerous.

One of the best presents I had as a child was this water pistol! I would take it everywhere with me and fill it up and squirt it, it was fun, I was naughty enough to squirt the dog with it. I had my own paddling pool as well but being the only child it wasn't as much fun on my own, I would make little boats and float them in the water. I had loads of fun when mum used to take me down to the sea so that I could play in the sea and build sandcastles, fond memories. I was always a water baby, even though I didn't learn to swim till I was 18!

I played in water constantly when I was a kid. We didn't have air conditioning and it was hot in the midwest. I was always in the hose in the backyard trying to keep cool during the summer months. As I became a teenager, I would spend my days at the local swimming pool. It was a public pool that was always in need of instructors and lifeguards. Because I was too young to be a lifeguard, I taught swimming. This was an unpaid position but I was able to swim at no charge all summer. It was well worth it. I walked to the pool which was right across the street from our house. Since I wasn't old enough to drive, this was just great. I still like water but won't put on a bathing suit any longer so the public pools are not on my agenda.

yeah!! i love water! everything that has to do with playing water i really enjoy it as a kid.. i guess even now i still do. :)
I remember when i was a child we have a huge garage where 2 cars can be parked, when it is free there is always this hose that i would use and play with.. i would open it and play "fireman" to my brothers and neighbors hehe... my mom would let me clean the walls scrubbing and washing it all together and i bathe as i do this with some of our maids. hehe it was fun for me at the time...
one time, my brother asked my mom to buy this kiddie pool one time and we were all jumping and running and making everything we pass by sooo wet. he he
those were really the fun times...

All the time. We use to have water fights in our neighborhood - lots of us too. We would split into two teams and fill buckets and whatever we could find to hold water. Those were the fun days and I would come home drenched!

I used to love playing with water as a child, my mum always sat me outside in summer with a yellow plastic washing up bowl and I had all my play pots and pans and dolls and I used to play in it for hours, and then it was water fights as I got older, with my friends, we would buy the balloons that you can fill up with water and just throw them at each other and get soaked. Then when I had my first son and he was old enough we had a water fight on the street, it was such fun. I was a single parent with him then and most of my neighbours did not like me because of that, they made such a fuss over this water fight saying that I was a disgrace and that they were going to phone the police! It was on my property and not even anywhere near them, they lived across the road, they said we were making too much noise, I said no actually it is called having fun and playing with my child, something you obviously never did with yours!

hi gemini_rose. that sounded fun! i know it would be fun to play with your own child. water fight or any other fight. i think your neighbors were just jealous because you have a good relationship with your son.

Surely I did love playing with water when I was a kid.
I remember myself swimmering in the river right running across the southern part of my hometown, a small village in Zhejiang Province, China. It was beautiful summer afternoon, just before the sun hided itself behind the evergreen hills. It was really wonderful. I could think of life without water when I was young. But now I am a city dweller, can only see water running out of the tabs. I miss the river of my village. I want to plunge myself allover in water. Water had become part of my childhood.
I can have it anymore.
Last year, I took my son back to my hometown.
It turned out he like the river just like his father had been. Does it mean he inherited that from me/?
or it just human nature. Afterall, our ancesters came from the sea.

hi sdaimie! your hometown sounded really wonderful! we don't have a river here but we have a lake. and i've seen some great and big rivers too. i also missed swimming when i got busy with work that i didn't have the time to take a plunge. but i don't swim anymore in the lake because its not the way it used to be. i can only swim in swimming pools now or go to places where they have a beach.
i guess it was natural for your kid to like the river because there aren't any rivers in your city where you live.

I used to remember my mother screaming at me trying to get me into the house, it never worked but sometimes i wondered why i like thunderstorms. I think its becuase i like the way the rain fills when its raining and thundering out.... its sleeping weather to me, i could sleep on the patio forever if there was a storm every night. its so calming to me, some people call me wierd but i think people should love nature...cause were slowly corrupting our planet to a point were that wonderful thunderstorm wont be so pretty afterall...

hi subha! when i was little i used to "wash" my doll. adults would say its bad coz it might cause a rain according to superstitions. i stopped washing my dolls since they don't get easily dirty anyway. but not because it might cause rain.

Oh no. I think you can enjoy the water at any age. For me, I have had my fill because of my childhood. You should enjoy the water regardless of your age.I just don't have the desire anymore.

hmmm.. i guess even if we are old we can still enjoy the water. like in a spa or in a hot spring where we don't have to swim. that's too bad that you don't have the desire to be in the water anymore! it's refreshing to be in a hot spring.

my officemates would often tell me to enjoy my life when i'm still young. so i guess there's a basis for saying that "you had your fill when you were young" because there are things that we can't just do anymore when we grow old.

its very dangerous to swim in a river especially if the current is strong. and its dangerous for people who can't swim. i guess i was lucky because i grew up beside a lake and i just had to learn how to swim. but i also fear deep water and big waves. i just avoid going to deeper parts.

Yes, i like it and even on the rain.
Until now there are times when i just play with it.
I splash water on my sister and do it back to me until both of us are already wet.
Somehow i act like a little kid and reminds me of my childhood days.

i've always believe that there's a child inside all of us. that child within us makes us enjoy simple things that we think only children can enjoy.
