Is the Democratic Party Self-Destructing?

As the Race for the Nomination of the Democratic Party continues, it is becomming more and more vehement (especially on the part of the Clintons). More and more there is being heard loudly by the upper echelons of The Democratic Party, a hue and cry for the Candidates to get this thing settled BEFORE the Convention. The Clintons have stated quite clearly that they have NO INTENTION of withdrawing from the race for the "good of the Party". They continue to make that point clear, day after day, in campaign stop after campaign stop. It almost seems to have become their mantra.
Clinton supporters have stated that there's no way they'd vote for Obama if he were to win the nomination. Obama supporters have said the same thing about the Clintons. Is this continuing struggle for the Nomination tearing the Democratic Party apart and giving us another "1968"?

I think that this ongoing battle for the nomination is the best thing that's happened to the Democratic party in a long time and they should stop complaining. Party registration is through the roof and people are interested and getting involved in the process. Considering the low voter turnout in this country, this renewed interest could be the best thing that's happened to the country in a long time. How can citizens in a democracy taking part in any aspect of an election ever be a bad thing?

I just hope their statements are all a spur of the moment. If I were American, and old enough to vote, I'd definitely vote for Clinton rather than McCain if Obama were to lose the nomination. There's no way we can put another Republican in the White House, it'll just ruin the United States. If the United States crashes economically, a lot of other countries will unavoidably follow.
