As some of you know already, my daughter had really been struggling all the way through high school to the point that she was getting D's and F's on her progress reports and she was falling way behind on her school work. Last November the high school counselor decided to transfer her to the local continuation school. And my daughter loved it right from the get go. But we were both really worried about her passing the exit exam. She'd failed 4 times at the high school. She ended up taking it again in January and again in March since they hadn't gotten the results back from the first one. Well, my daughter called me twice this morning. Once to tell me she only had 10 more credits to go before they were all complete. And the second time was to tell me that she had passed the exit exam! She was so excited! She kept telling me "Mom, I'm so happy I just want to scream it to everyone!" I'm so proud of her. She will be able to graduate on time, and that's a great big relief to me. Now I have to make good on my promise to her that if she made it I would buy her the new Zune mp3 player. LOL! Thank you all for letting me do my parental bragging bit. Hugs to everyone! Carryl

Hi Carryl Good for your daughter. I am happy for her. I know it is a lot harder now to get out of school than when we were young. You have every right to do a little parental bragging. She is in this life because of you. You kept encouraging her. So..it is a win for you also. (((hugs)))

Yep...it's definitely a lot more difficult to graduate nowadays. I don't know if I could pass those tests myself. LOL Thanks hon.

Hah, tests are getting harder and harder nowadays in my opinion - luckily I only have 3 exams rather than a page full in June. On another note, I've heard rumours from a few of my teachers about courses which are entirely coursework based. Though it sounds like a relatively good idea which would ease the stress and workload, it obviously has its cons as well. Some students find exams easier than coursework, though on review that's more than likely due to the fact that their teacher/s haven't given them specific enough details on what really gives them the marks when writing coursework. Though I digress; congratulations for your daughter.

That is great news! Most importantly I bet her self esteem has greatly risen. Does she have any thoughts of going to a community college or another college nearby? She's on a roll!

She is so excited and happy! She's even putting more "oomph" into completing her remaining credits. She has actually already registered for the local junior college. She's still working on deciding exactly what classes she wants to take, but I'm sure she'll get that figured out soon enough. Thanks so much hon.

congratulations katlady..and to your daughter as well. children of parents like you are sure to do well in their life, and i am sure that from now on your daughter will be consistent in getting pass marks..actually i am also a student, and the trauma of exams holds me captive too. in fact, i am having my mid term exams right now and today was my maths paper. the fear of not getting good marks in the exams is terrible, and especially if you have been unsuccessful in the past, your mental blockage gets srtonger and the task of passing becomes even tougher. i am glad that your daughter overcomed all obstacles and mental barriers...and thats a great achievement indeed!

That's how my daughter was at the high school. The worse her grades got, the more nervous she was when exams would roll around. Thank you so much for the encouragement hon. And I hope you will be very successful in your schooling.

Thank you hon. It's two tests actually. One in English and one in math. They have to pass both in order to graduate and be accepted at a college. No pass...no graduation. I'm glad I never had to deal with that. LOL

I know that's what they have to do to get into the junior college, which is where my daughter is starting out. Believe me, I'm not too fond of the idea of going back to school myself. But I've had such a hard time concentrating on my home studies for medical billing that I'm beginning to think that being in a classroom is the only way that I will do well. UGH! Not a pretty thought! LOL

Is that all it takes to get into college? WOw, It's much harder to get into university here. You have to have certain grades and they are quite high. Wouldn't be back there again for anything. I don't think I'd be able to do any better than I did last time....lol. xxx

WOW! Tell your daughter Congrats from me. It's amazing what s change in schools can do. I'm thinking the teachers at her old school couldn't get thru to her but the ones at her new school sure seem to being do wonders for her. Glad to here she is doing so well now. Tell her to keep up the good work.

I think that most of the teachers at the old school simply didn't care about the individual students and didn't want to put that much effort into helping them. There were a few good ones, but not enough to make up for the others. The teachers at the continuation school are more geared into the students. Thanks so much my friend.

That is just wonderful!!! CONGRATS to your daughter and CONGRATS to you for being such a great mother by staying true to your word and helping her through this process. I understand the parental bragging, it always makes a parent feel so good when their child succeeds. WAY TO GO! Have a great day!

You have every right to brag... good for her! Our grandkids from our oldest daughter had trouble in school because niether of them couldn't fit into 'the mold'... they're exceptionally intelligent, but their school was totally sports-oriented.. and they aren't. They switched to an alternative school, and both became excited about their educations again. They graduated with flying colors... so much for any alternatives being for 'losers'!! Hugs back to you, and a big 'BRAVO! to your sweet girl!

Well, isn't that why we had 'em? They embarrass us when they're little, we get them back, then we settle in as friends... its the system, as far as I can see! So both of you enjoy this part of it, and as years go by, this will be a favorite memory!
