Rising Sea Levels - Will we all get wet?

There has been a lot of publicity recently about rising sea levels and who much land will be covered by the rising water, but What is the REAL cause of rising sea levels. The polar ice melting is given as the main cause of this, however as the Arctic Ice is purely Ocean Ice, then this will have absolutely no effect on sea level rising if it all melts. Antarctic Ice is a different matter as that is covering land, this will contribute to the water level rising if the ice melts. Recent reports however show that 20% of the Antarctic Ice is melting (great glee from the 'Enemies of the Earth' and EcoNazies saying this is proof of Global Warming), but what they won't tell you is that of the rest of the Antartic over 60% is actually getting more ice and the ice is also becoming thicker. Another unmentioned cause fof sea level changes is caused by undersea earthquakes and is totally natural, indeed the earthquake that caused the devasting 2004 Tsunami displaced rocks 40 metres high over a range of more than 1000 metres. Sea levels have risen and fallen over millions of years, the mediterranaen sea for instance has twice dried up in the past, and could do the same again in the future.

Whilst I worry about Global Warming and the contribution mankind makes to it Eskimo sweety I have been saying for a long time that the Earth has changed so many times over the thousands of years that we cannot expect it now to remain in a constant state just cos we would like it too! I mean at one time all the continents were one land mass after all! Yes the changes to our planet is worrying but I do not think mankind can be blamed for it all! Thanks for the education there too sweety - I hadn't realised that there was more ice covering a lot of Antartica! xxx

Mo, if you are really worried, then just move in to Stirling Castle, at the top of a hill, it shouldn't be too affected by rising sea levels. I've actually read a lot about Global Warming recently, some from links by other MyLot members. It looks like the contribution of Man Made CO2 as a greenhouse gas is actually 0.117%, so the entire population of the U.K. walking to work instead of using gas guzzlers will have no effect at all (remember more exercise for humans = more CO2 exhaled as well).

Actually Mo, my mother stayed in the castle for a short time during the war,(while she was in the army, so I look on it as home too!!!)

Well Eskimo honey I have often thought that the Castle was my rightful home so I will look into moving in as soon as possible! lol I do agree that the problems the earth is facing and I hadn't even considered that we may emit as much CO2 without cars - that is a really interesting point! xxx

Ah... common sense talk about sea levels! This makes you some kind of trend setter in that we don't see much of this. I'm still amazed at how many people bought Al Gore's BS.

Thanks for your response, it looks like it you and me against the rest of the world (with the exception of a very few other informed people). I actually find it difficult to find relevant data sometimes, because a lot of it seems to get suppressed very quicly after publication), although I've found some thanks to links from several MyLot Members.

Can you imagine ... at one time the Great Plains of America were the bottom of the sea! Am I worried? No! I live on top of a mountain more than a mile (more than 2km) above sea level. If the seas rise this high it won't matter!!! _

If the sea level rises that high, then more than just you will get their feet wet.
