so heres my thoughts.. ive been thinking about seeking hypnotherapy to quit smoking, but i am rather uncomfortable in having someone i dont know dicking around with my psyche and subconcious. is there an effective way to do it myself? and where do i learn this ?

I don't believe in hypnotherapy. I guess the best and sure way is really going cold turkey but to withdraw from smoking slowly. start by lessening smoking everyday. 5 sticks today, 3 tomorrow, 1 the following day etc. But if you really believe in hypnotherapy than why don't you seek the help of a professional.

I'm a little leary of hypnosis in general. I know it *can* work, for some people, but I'm not sure how good an idea it is to have anyone tinking with your brain on a subconscience level.
If you want to quit smoking that bad, than just quit. Make up your mind and do it. The hardest part is the first 72 hours when you are going through withdrawl, and have a physical need for nicotine. The rest is all mental, and after those intial 3 days it's just breaking the habit of doing something with your hands and having something in your mouth.
Okay to be fair, I am a smoker. I have never tried to quit, and have no desire to stop. But I have broke other habits, and dealt with other types of addictions, so I'm not just spouting off here.
Just stop, stop cold turkey, and enjoy all the extra money you have to spend on something else... I'll spark one up in your honor... :)
