My daughter, the tomboy

My little girl (she turned 10 today) has been on a real tomboy kick as of late. Refuses to wear anything pink, no dresses or skirts allowed and will pretty much wear nothing but sweats and t-shirt. I askes her last week what she wanted for her birthday today, fully expecting her to say a sports jersey or the like, but stunned me by asking for a gair straightener....guess you can't take the girl completely out of her. Any similar type stories involving your kids?

LOL my daughter is a HUGE tomboy! has been for yrs...She got so bad for a while there she wouldnt have ANYTHING to do with anything even remotely girlie LOL..she'll be 13 next month and is slowly doing minor "girlie" things like trying to grow her nails (and painting them), wearing perfume etc etc...Nothing major though...I think she'll always be a tomboy really I mean this is a girl who wants tats, a Harley and to wrench on cars when she gets older...She wants to drag race like her dad did, she loves mucking and being totally hands on etc etc...I cant picture her ever being a pink wearing, dainty girlie LOL...

I use to be such a tomboy growing up.Now that I have a 6 year old daughter my self she is anything but a tomboy.Wears pink all the time cries if any dirt gets on her.Does wear light make up to family dinner's or things like that.Wants her hair done all the time.Loves dresses and ect... So much different then I was at her age.The funny thing is though she does loves frogs and when i say she loves them she really does. Her birthday to turn 6 is coming up soon and with her pink ribbons in her hair she looks me in the eyes and says mommy I want a frog for my birthday a real frog.It made me laugh really laugh.Kids can be so funny.

My oldest daughter spent her youth climbing trees and my youngest did the same. Now they are adults and wear dresses and skirts, so I am certain you will keep seeing her change over the years. I hope she has a great birthday and enjoys her special day. They seem to come so fast when they are young. My youngest is still thrilled about birthdays, but the oldest is starting to stick to 29.

I think that every little girl goes through that stage in their lives I mean I have grown up around them all around me and all the ones that I have known have gone through that at one point of their lives or the other but usually they will get out of it pretty fast when boys start coming around and they notice them...and then that is when you are really going to hate it is when that starts happening lol SO I think that it is just normal for that kind of thing to happen... As a grown up Tomboy, I can tell you, I have days where I want to dress up and days where I just want to be comfy. It's actually nice to be able to pull off both. As a child you could find me playing football with the boys, climbing trees, and trying to show the boys up. I am proud to say that I am proficient in the kitchen but am also able to work on your car. My husband loves my versatility. Okay, so pink still isn't my favorite color, but burgandy, sage green, peach and yellow are still feminine and show people that I can be soft. It is my personality that tells people that I am strong, but I am very gentle and compassionate. I am caring, but I have a spine and an opinion. You don't find me hanging out in trees anymore, but you will find me off camping with my hubby as we are able to take time off. I like to laugh, I write poetry, I have a strong work ethic, and I'll stand up for ya. But ya never know, am I going to dress up today, or am I gonna wander about in jeans and a t-shirt. To be honest, when I was young, my adoptive parents treated my brother better. There were times I wished I was a boy so that I would be loved. But I got past all of that. I'm proud to be me, part tomboy and part girly girl. I still don't appreciate spiders.

I was a real tomboy growing up. I still don't really care for dresses and skirts. I only wear them to church, on a job interview, or if my husband and I are going out. I also don't really care much for hair. Now my daughter and step-daughters are the direct opposite. They are very girly. I think that proves that God has a sense of humor.

When I was growing up I always thought that the boys had more fun than the girls. Their toys were neater and cooler. Who wanted to play with dolls. Cowboys and Indians, Trucks and marbles held the attraction. And if we were playing cops and robbers no one wanted to be the girl that was kidnapped. but when older and really beginning to notice the real difference between boys and girls was an eye opener. So the tomboy gradually got put away and the frilly dresses and fancy hair dos came out. I would hope for her to remain a tomboy for a long while. Once they really become interested in boys and one becomes interested in her you'll pull your hair out and wonder why she didn't remain a tom boy.

I don't wear skirt and dresses either what i wear is my brother's clothes so i will looks like boys than girls. Don't worry i grow up to be a women , and falling in love with a man.

When I was growing up, I hang out with boys, play with boys and love to wear like them. It changes when I was in high school(freshmen) when I have this huge crush to one of the senior studs..lol

My daughter is 10 (11 in December) and she will fight you if you try to put a dress on her! She's all tomboy. Jeans, sneaks, t-shirt, hair pulled back, skateboarding, etc... I'm HOPING she'll grow out of it SOON! Then there's my 6 year old Diva/Drama Queen. She's all girly. Loves dresses, shoes, stockings, etc... One extreme to the next.

lol....not my kids (I have two boys)....but me!! I'm sure my parents can relate to your story. I was a tomboy myself...and refused to wear anything girlie...and my mother had a hard time with me....because she so wanted a girl to dress up..and here I was...who refused to wear or do anything girlish! And suddenly after around 18 years, I realized I wanted to be girly and dress up and use make up...and do my hair (or rather let it grow out first)...my mother got a pleasant shock! And yes, a hair straightener was one of my first requests (which I still have...lol)

Give her time when she starts to notice boys. Mine will be 12 soon, she does and she doesn't dress like a typical girl should. She wears jeans and a blouse to school, wears her hair up in a pony tail. She really doesn't care for pink unless it's a t-shirt with something on it that she likes. She only wears skirts or dresses when she goes to church with her friend. Now my youngest is a different story, nearly all of her clothes has pink on it, even her shoes. Her hamster cage is even pink,. When it comes to birthdays, my oldest wants books, or a movie on something she happens to like at that point in time. Nothing really girly. She's noticed the boys now and slowly starting to dress more like a girl.

LOL, I went through that with my niece. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday and she said a gift card for a girlie store at the mall. That totally threw me for a loop! I was expecting her to say some new hockey pads or something sport related but she wanted to get some new "girlie" clothes without having to drag her mother along and get the "baby clothes". I am glad I don't have to deal with that for a long, long time.

Oh, wow. I was always a tonboy too when I was growing up. I hated to wear dresses and still do. I was girly in some ways but a real tomboy in a whole lot of other ways. I am glad that she asked for something girly. that had to make you feel better. My daughter is tomboyish also but she likes all of the girly things as well. I got the best of both worlds since I only have one child.

My 11 year old daughter is the same she will not wear dresses or skirts. She dislikes anything pink or flowery. She also has never ever played with dolls. She loves her sports and plays for a girls football team.
