Happy April Fool's Day

Being that in my time zone, it is a bit more than 3 hours until April 1st. HAPPY NEW MONTH EVERYONE! Also, being that April 1st is April Fool's day, I figured this might be something to talk about.
I'm sure we've all either pulled a prank on someone or maybe even someone pulled on on you. I've been known to pull some real doozies. & not necessarily on April Fool's Day.
While several of us were outside smoking, a friend was so proud of his new Zippo lighter that he was offering to light everyone's cigarettes. Then he would put it into his rear pants pocket. We were all sitting at this picnic bench in which he also had a small open box, being that he was selling raffle tickets for a student organization.
Our mutual friend pick-pocketed his lighter, hid it in his own pocket, pulled out a cigarette, & then asked him for a light. The friend quickly reached for the missing lighter, & was in a frenzy wondering, "Where's my lighter?" I finally lit my other friend's cigarette, & then suggested that when he wasn't looking, sneak the lighter into the box. He did just that.
I finally stood up, peeked into the box, counting the few coins that were in the box, & then lastly, I said, "ANd a lighter!" The friend jumped up & looked into the box & found his lighter, leaving the mutual friend & myself laughing.
Finally, it was time to head back in, so I asked him, "Do you still have your lighter?"
"Yes, I do," he replied. "I probably just tossed it into the box without thinking."
A few hours later, the three of us met in the cafeteria for lunch, & I asked him if he still had his lighter, & he replied with the same thing. Finally, our mutual friend admitted to swiping it on him. After I explained it all to him, for the next few weeks, the three of us could not meet without looking at each other & just spontaneously start laughing.
At times, I have been known to THINK of one, but not pulling it for real because of cruelty &/or practicality factors. If the person I pull a joke on will also enjoy it, I would go for it, but if it would get him mad or upset, then it only remains as a thought that I might mention.
So, what kinds of things have you pulled on someone. I hope that victim of the prank did get just as much of a laugh as everyone else.

I normally cannot keep a straight face either. If you saw my comment to the first response, when I pulled that one, it was right after I told him that it was one of my favorite things to pull on people, five minutes before pulling it on him. I actually stood there for a bit of time with a big smile on my face while trying to stifle my laughter. The bit of noise I made in doing that was what made him look in my direction, & we were both on the floor unable to stop laughing long enough to get up. What REALLY made it funny was that I had told him about it 5 minutes before pulling it on him, & he still jumped.

Hi KrazyKlingon - long time no see! There again I've not been on "the other side" for ages. I forgot it was April Fools Day today! It's April 1st already here in the UK. I can't really think of any pranks I've played specifically on April Fools Day - I'm not really a good prankster. I start laughing too soon and give the game away. I also hate having practical jokes played on me I must admit so I sort of subscribe to the theory that if you can't take it then don't dish it out! Your example was a good one though. It's not one that anyone would take offence at. I often think some people go too far and it tips over into being cruel.

Quite often, I'm not very good at pulling pranks either. Like you, I can't help but start laughing. The incident in the original posting was actually started by someone else, but the way the guy that the joke was on had everyone laughing. That made things somewhat easy to hide.
Quite often, if it's to startle someone, I sneak in & just stand there. My stifling my laughter makes a noise, & when he notices that I'm right there, that gets 'em.

Happy April Fool's Day!!! My husband pulls practical jokes on me and the kids all the time. It does not even need to be a holiday. You never know when your bed will be short sheeted or be missing completely. We stringed my daughter's room for her birthday. She could not get from the door to her bed at all. At Girl Scout camp, you might find pots and pans in your sleeping bag. LOL I hope you enjoy your day. Play nice.

That's funny. All of the pranks & practical jokes I pulled were not even on an April Fool's Day. That probably would be the day that people who know me would expect something & be ready for ANYTHING - all for nothing. In the meantime, keep an eye out behind your back for the invisible man that might quietly walk in, stand behind you, & then yell, "BOO!"

That light tap on your shoulder was supposed to spark a spark caused by static electricity.

That pat on the back is just a ploy to put a big sticker on your back that reads "I need a Kick Start". LOL

Uh - was that an April Fool's joke that backfired? 6 months is a bit of a time later from 4/1/2005, but ...
I wonder if people actually believed it the 6 months later. Maybe they did, since it wasn't April Fool's Day, or maybe from that Apirl Fool's experience, they probably thought you were joking around again.

I didn't personally do this one but it is hilarious. My aging 79 year old grandma decided to start a myspace account..funny on its own...but anyway. My brother in law got a picture of myspace security and put it on his profile, and sent a message to grandma saying that she was to old to have an account and that it was against the rules to have somebody that old on there and they would have to delete her account. She was dumbfounded and said she was going to contact them for discrimination and that they couldn't seriously delete her account for her age. After awhile my brother in law and sister finally came clean and let her know it was a prank, after hours of laughing. She had a good laugh and was quite cool about the matter. I thought this was great......

I'm one of those with that weakness. It's not easy to "act" serious when trying to pull something like that. So I usually end up needing help. I also found out that I'm not the only one, because while trying to pull one of those on me, he ended up breaking out laughing instead of saying what he was supposed to say. Even though it didn't work, we still got a laugh out of that anyway.
