Today was a school day for my 4 year old daughter. She is in preschool. So out of the mouths of babes..Anyway.. I had fixed her breakfast and layed out her clothes to get dressed..giving her those crucial extra minutes of sleep. I went to wake her. I told her breakfast is on the table. She say mom what is for breakfast? I tell her. She informs me she doesn't want that, she wants this other item. I tell her she can have that another time. And she spits out..(think kiddie whine here)"BUT MOM!! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO READ MY MIND, I NEEDED YOU TO READ MY MIND!!" I had the hardest time not laughing. I finally let loose after she was on her bus!

If my wife were to come to me reporting a story like this, even if she saw humor in it, it probably wouldn't cause me to laugh. I have a good relationship with my daughter and I have noticed, in the past, that my wife becomes more unhappy about things when my daughter is playing with me and giggling.
My wife, you see, has reported that I 'stole' the baby in the past. I play so eagerly with my daughter that she makes a fool of herself to get my attention. We goof off a lot and I value the time I spend doing so. I have also notice, when her uncle is around, that Emma ignores me and plays with him. Therfore, I can understand my wife's feelings in this matter. Because she sees her Uncle less frequently than myself, she concentrates her energy on him when he is around. Then too, because she sees me less often than my wife, she tends to concentrate her energy on this when I am around.
My poor wife probably doesn't feel quite the center of my daughter's world because she is the one around the most. At least I sit in the middle and can see both sides. So, my wife tends to feel a bit bitter -- at least at times -- about this and seems to perceive that my daughter is more affectionate with me. Therefore, she also tends to complain about my daughter treating her mother as if mother's job was to cook, clean, and get her food ready.
So, if my wife came to me with a story like this, I would be immediately in a bad mood. If my wife isn't happy, then -- sooner or later -- no one in the house will be happy. I'm glad you saw humor in this, but I would probably have seen a need to correct my daughter's presumption more than any opportunity for laughter or mirth over it.

How sweet! LOL We moms really ARE expected to do everything :)
I remember my Mom, when she was babysitting my girls, used to tell them that they had to behave because she had "eyes in the back of her head" and would know if they were doing something naughty, no matter where she was.
One day, out of the blue, my daughter asked me "Mommy? Does the lady have to be careful when she cuts Grandma's hair?" I said no and was really puzzled. She then proceeded to say, "Oh... ok... I just hope she never pokes Grandma in the eyes in the back of head."
Sometimes ya can't do anything but giggle :D

You must be an incredible Mom for your daughter to have such high expectations of your abilities. Can you control the weather too?
Your daughter sounds like quite a character. You gotta love her!

I would have laughed right there. HAHA
Now, my son has done that every once in a while and I do the 'eat it or don't eat it thats what you're getting' thing on him and he stops and eats. But wow...that goes under the 'kids say the darnedest thing' categories.

LOL. Kids sya the silliest, funniest things sometimes. that is so cute. My daughter used to say ( chit no ) all the time and we tried not to laugh at her, but we could not get her to stop it. We had to start tappiing her on the bottom and telling her not to say that. We didn't find out till later that she was saying sit down to the dog. It came out the other way though LOL. We felt so n=bad and had to laugh about it.
