Do you prefer digital or analog watches?

I think most of us have watches. Assuming you have not relegated the role of timekeeper to your mobile phone, you would likely be wearing a watch when you are out of the house.
What is your favorite type of watch? A digital one showing LED digital numbers? Or an analog one that shows an "old-fashioned" clock face?
For me, I prefer the analog one. Maybe I am just an antique myself lol. What about you?

I like a digital watch, although I do not actually use a watch anymore, I usually go off the clocks in the shops I go in or failing that there is not one I use my mobile phone.

At least in Singapore, I seldom see clocks anywhere outside!
Lol... definitely they don't display them at shops - they would NOT want you to remember the time and leave!

Hi there Wizard, good to see you again.
I own several watches, not one digital though. I find it much easier to read an analog watch, I can make out the hands on the watch face very easily whereas with a digital watch face it always seems hard to make out the figures. I do have a couple of digital clocks in the house but nothing beats the look of my favourite watch. Then again, I'm probably an antique too (hug)

Thanks hun. I have been very busy of late. In fact I shouldn't even be here now but I am so fed up with what I was doing so I decided to just abandon it for myLot (for a while ).
Perhaps you are more used to the traditional clock face like me.

I have to wear an analog watch. If I read a digital time I pretty much have to work out in my head what that looks like on a clock face. I don't think it's because we are "antiques", I think it is a matter of what we grew up with and adapting to change. It's like celsius and farenheit, inches and centimeters. Though I learned those in grade school I have adapted to celsius better than metric measures and weights. I still weigh myself in pounds; wouldn't have a clue what the metric conversion would be. Of course having all cars and road signs reading in kilometers, I've had to adapt to that and haven't had difficulty with it.
I think if we are forced to change (like with the speed limits) we can adapt, but when we still have options (analog vs. digital) we choose what we know best. There are more digital clocks around my house than analog (microwave, vehicle, stove, VCR, computer) and am becoming better at "knowing" the time when I see it in digital, I prefer to see it in analog. And, all numbers have to be on the watch (1,2,3,4,5,6...) and no roman numerals either. I don't want to have to study my watch to see what time it is. I should be able to tell with just a glance.

I was raised and live in Canada. We were taught conversion in early grade school so I should be well trained by now. I guess I just never got the hang of it. I am always pulling out my ruler when something is given to me in centimeters to figure it out in inches. With the temperature I am now more familiar with the celsius but only because I can guesstimate what it is in farenheit.

Oh yes, I completely agree. No Roman numerals for
me either, I would have to count out the numbers every
time I looked at my watch. I suppose you would become accustomed to it eventually.
I am the same as you. I was raised in the States and don't ask me what a meter is..lol
I have friends in Europe that say oh, it is so many degrees Celsius here..YIKES! Convert please..lol
I normally just ask my kids.

Hey hey, I hope you are not suggesting that we are not adaptive to change. I refuse to concur, ha!
I weigh myself in kg since that's what we use here. I find it troublesome when I am asked to give in pounds lol. Just like how I measure my height in meters.
@saigonwarrior: Because we aren't Romans, ha!

I don't wear a watch, I suppose I never really did.
I always felt like they were too confining, too scratchy on my wrist, too annoying to be strapped to time like that..
now i pretty much just use my cell phone for things and keeping track of time. it is easier for me that way :)
i think it is good if you wear a watch to use the analog ones - pretty soon we're all going to forget how to read regular clocks because we've become so dependent on the digital ones!

No, no, I feel it is awesome to wear a watch. If you get one you like, you will enjoy wearing it. Makes you look "better" too, hehe!

It would depend on what clothes I am wearing. If I'm on my jeans and shirt or any rugged attire, I like a digital watch but if I'm on dress or a formal attire I would definitely want an analog watch.
In the house, I still prefer analog clocks but I like my alarm clocks digital because it's easier to see and the ringing alarms are interesting.

Attire matching, hehe.
I am a guy so I think it will suffice (unless you are rich) to get a good time piece and hang on to it.

Definitely analog watch, I think I'm an 'oldie' too! Not sure about calling yourself an antique (not yet, any way!!!)
I have tried the LED ones, they are not bad but I prefer the 'face' of the analog ones, you can get so many different styles. I even used to have a watch in the shape of a guitar! I used to love having different ones for different occasions. Do you remember the Swatch watches that used to have different colours to go around the face, you had different straps too!
I use my mobile too nowadays, especially when I'm on the beach. My lovely watch would disappear too quickly and I would be heart broken, now the phone, you can always buy another one!

How about antique in the making LOL.
Oh yes, I note too that all those real expensive watches are also the analog type. I don't think those "time pieces" include the digital kind!
Indeed as patgalca pointed out, you can get a watch at a much lower price than a phone (assuming you don't mind going for those dirt cheap kind lol).
Yet then again, why would your watch disappear more easily than the phone? I thought it should be the other way since you would like me wearing the watch. As for the phone, it would just be in your pocket and might just drop out.

I prefer the analog ones for no other reason than that they look much nicer! I don't mind an LED display on my bedside alarm clock or whatever but I don't want one on my wrist. The same is true with any other clocks I have at home, they all have a proper clock face rather than a display.

I prefer a digital clock and an analog watch. I like to wear a dressy, attractive watch on my arm, and I find much nicer styles in analog style. The digital watches I find more casual and even a little bit geeky.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to geeky or nerdy at all! Just in my watch I prefer a more classic style.

Yes, analog for me.
We have a clock in every room and except for the bedroom (which are digital alarm clocks) all of our clocks are analog. I think if you stop using analog altogether, as you become older you may forget how and they are also nice if you have children at home so they will know how to use analog clocks/watches, also.
Both of my children use analog watches also, their preference not mine.
Also, the clock should not tick! That is why we have digital electric in the bedrooms!

In fact, for my house, we have both analog and digital ones everywhere. I have 2 digital ones in my room alone, not including the phone's.
But for my watch, I still prefer the analog version. Somehow, seeing the clock face and where the hour hand is seems to give me a better idea of time LOL.
I happen to think analog ones are cooler too, hehe.

I have never seen a fashionable white gold digital watch In fact I have not seen very many fashionable digital wathes they are all the same. I have seen many, many fashionable analog watches, I even have a white gold one and it is verr beautiful.

I much prefer the analog watches as well. To me, the digital timepieces look cheap and ugly. I admit to owning both kinds, but the digital ones I have were bought as last minute "Oh crap! I don't have the time, and I need a watch!" things.
I haven't actually worn a watch for years now, since the summer of 2000 when I worked my last job outside of my house. That took some getting used to, and for months I would continue to look for the time on my wrist. I realized it had become a nasty habit, always looking to see what time it was, when often, it didn't matter THAT much. My internal clock seems to have become more honed now that I'm not a constant time checker on my watch too. I like that.

Haha, cheap and ugly?
I think they can be beautiful too but perhaps they tend to look cheap HAHA.
How envious! Powerful internal clock, eh?

Irritated by the material? Perhaps you can consider watches of materials that you are not sensitive too.
If you however just feel that wearing a watch is restrictive, well, I guess it is your own preference.

I much prefer an old fashioned wind up analogue watch. I am fortunate enough to have a couple and alternate them. I think that digital have their place though and will wear one of I am out and about fishing or whatever, just in case I fall in or lose it. All children should learn how to read an analogue watch/clock face though. Never know when you might need to tell the time from the Town of church clock.

it doesn't really matter to me if its analog or the old-fashioned with hands. as long as the watch looks great, fashionable and graceful, i would wear it. i think i had a digital watch once. but most of my watches are actually analogs. i've always thought digital watches are more suitable for guys with less patience and brains, just kidding. i just see digital watches as manly and not for girls and ladies like me.

Personally I prefer digital ones as often there is a stopwatch function available. However, I do not like the fonts the digits are in. It is rather confusing especially at night when the digits are not clearly visible without lights. Needles are different. I know the time at a glance.

Well, I have that function in my phone too.
But hey, when do you ever use it?
PS.: I have that function in my analog watch too lol though it is somewhat broken.

When I graduated from High School my parents gave me an expensive and oh so pretty digital watch. It couldn't keep proper time to save it's life. One day in the doctor's office I was frustrated with it's out of whack time and complaining and the doctor told me that it had to do with my magnetic field which was very 'active' and irregular and throwing the watch off! I thought he was kidding, but it turns out he was right. And to think I nearly fell for my Dad's explanation which was that I was always one step out of time anyway and always had been - either born too early, or too late, but obviously not in tune with my present! LOL

I went to Stonehenge on a school trip. My magnetic field has never been the same since and the world around now looks like a paper cut-out of reality. My Dad could be right - I'm in the wrong time. lol

I am a watch lover. I collect watches. Normally, for my collection, I prefer the analog ones. They are more elegant looking and more glamorous. Especially when I can choose the face of the watch (normally, I prefer those with mother of pearl face). Sometimes, when I get sporty, I use the digital ones. At least they are for more rugged look. There are times also that I want the combination of the two since there are watches that have both digital and analog in them.

I have 2 watches in my room one is a big analog and the other is a small digital watch.. but i think i didn't look to the analog one to know the time as the digital one beside me because mmm the analog watches sometimes confuse me i mean when I'm in hurry i may see the clock and don't know is it 3:45 or 4:45 or when I'm somewhere out the house and some one asks me what is the time now please? i sometimes tell him a wrong answer hhhhhhh thats when i was 10 years old so i hated the analog watches and from that time i just use the digital one ...
