getting rid of the penny...

apparently a number of government officials as well as economists are wanting to get rid of the penny...apparently australia has already done so...
here is a recent piece on this debate...

Working in a Hotel Restaurant,I get to charge bills to resident's rooms at the end of the evening..2 Business guys with the same company but separate rooms decided rather than haggle about who'd drank more,they'd have the bill split equally between their 2 rooms,and with an odd 5p in the total,the computer allocated the odd 1p to one of the rooms,which provoked a friendly argument about why one of them had to pay more than the other,then one quipped "You'd think they'd invent the 1/2p!" (at least,I THINK He was Joking?!)

I think that taking away the penny will cause a lot of problems up front but eventaly would be a good move. I don't believe that now is a good time for that change though.
