Well as a lot of my friends here on mylot know I went to Mystic Lake casino Tuesday evening to see Etta James in concert. the tickets and hotel room were comped. We had great seats. 4th row, main floor, just to the right of the stage. Great seats and a good line of sight as well. For being 70 years old she still kicked out the notes on her blues and jazz songs. One of the best she did Tuesday night was a song about a girl wanting to be blind insted of seeing her man leave. I think it ws called, "I'd rather be blind". She sang Randy newmans "Keep Your Hat On" She also did a great version of Janis Joplins, "Piece of my heart" She really worked the crowd as well and even put a heckler in his place to a roaring round of applause from the 2200 present. She did a few of her own hits but a lot of other artists songs. She did a Prince Song, "Kiss" and many other older R7B songs and blues. All told it was a 100 minute show that was electrified. The band was called "Roots" and it was a 7 piece lues band with 5 of them being her sons and or grandsons. My wife loved the show and we were very pleased with the great seats this time. Sounds like I should have done a revue for some paper here huh? Thanks all for the opportunity to share this here. For the purpose we are here, what was the last concert you've been to? Have you ever been comped great seats for a show from a casino?

We had great seats for a show in Las Vegas last year, but not that great. I wished we lived closer to a casino that had live shows. We live an hour and a half from Detroit. But the casino that we go to (Greektown) does not have shows, that I know of. I am glad that you had a great time.

Whom did you see in Vegas? Do you ever go to Mt Clemens for the casinos there? I loved Greektown and Motor City when I was back home a few years ago. Here's my Greektown mug I bought there as a souvenior.

That sounds like a good time, that is really nice. I would have loved to be there. As for your question, its been ages since I went to a concert. As for comps, for the casino, I am happy if I get to eat free. I have never gotten comps like the ones you get. That is really nice of the casino to give you such great comps like that.

I know you have earned some great comps, I also know you like to go to the casino. Do they give you those great comps because you are sucha high roller or are they just generous. The casinos in Detroit are tight with there comps, but then I am a cheap gambler. I can't afford to gamble with alot of money.

I had a blast as did the wife. I was surprised that she actually enjoyed this type of music. She doesn't really like it when I play the CDs in the car. Anyhow in the past 12 months I think I've been comped tix for concerts maybe 6 times or 7.

Bob, I am jealous. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. My daughter loves Etta James and would have enjoyed seeing her in concert. Maybe one day, who knows.

She would have loved the show then. Etta was very active with the crowd. She couldn't stand for long though due to a stroke she had awhile back. But she really worked the crowd very well.

Sounds like a fantastic concert AGB and I am glad you had great seats! I have never been to a caasino never mind got comped tickets for a show at one! I am trying to think what the last concert I went to was and I think it was when I took my Gran to see Brendan Shine for her Birthday almost 2 years ago! He is an Irish singer who also plays accordion and I grew up listening to him! He too is in his 70's and spent over 2 hours singing, dancing and playing accordion with gusto! xxx

gosh I never had money to go to concerts, the last one I went to might have been in 1975 when I took my aunt to an englebert humperdinck concert. I would love to see a wonderful jazz concert.

Despite the snow, you still had a great time. Kewl! The only concerts I have really been to were with my parents at a historic theater in Joliet, IL called The Rialto. I remember seeing Ronnie Milsap and some other guy who's name escaped me at the moment and a few others I can't recall. We were supposed to see Barbra Mandrell but she ended up cancelling cause of a bus accident (I think). This was back when I was in high school so I don't remember it all. My parents always got seats way in the back which sucked big time for me when I wanted to be close to the front.

Ronnie Milsap was a great entertainer. I saw him in Michigan a long time ago as well. I hate sitting way in back. This auditorium at Mystic lake casino seats 2200 and there is now a single bad seat actually. But the 4th row was awesome as a freebie.
