I was raised in a family that loved to go out on the boat. my parents belonged to a yacht club, and there were a couple cruises each summer where all the members took a cruise together. It was awesome. You should have seen all the different types of water vehicles where traveling together. Sailboats, Bay Liners, house boats, speed boats... Anyway, we, all the kids, knew how to swim, and in life jackets no less! The first time I took my son swimming still makes me smile. He was 3 years old and he was so scared to go in the lake that I had to bribe him with an ice cream bar! After he was finally coaxed into the water, I held onto him. He wouldn't have it any other way...lols But it wasn't long before he was splashing mommy, and sitting chest high in the water. By the end of the summer, he was having a blast at the lake. I had taught him how he could float, and even see underwater. He loved to dog paddle, and looked so cute. Now he loves to swim, and has for years. Actually it was fun to see him tease his own child into the lake for the first time:)

Well my kids are both grown now, but when they were born, I already had a inground swimming pool in my back yard.So as soon as they were able to walk, I had a life guard come to my house and teach them how to swim. They are both very good swimmers. Both of them were life guards in their teen years.

I wish we'd had a pool in our yard...lols I got so tired of running through the sprinkler. Made me really look forward to going out on the boat:)

We din't actually teach our children to swim. We always took them swimming before the age of five. with arm bands and rubber rings. When they got to the age of five they were able to take swimming lessons at the local swimming pool, so now they all have two swimming lessons a week and they are all doing well. We all swim as a family once a week, and we all enjoy swimming as a hobby we can do together. Its a good place to go and meet friends.
