The government has a new website based on the new food pyramid. I checked it out and registered to make a menu plan for the week. You get to find menus based on the food groups and they give you a daily calorie range based on your weight with the intent of a gradual weight loss. I was truly impressed by the site and would suggest you check it out if you want to get healthy meals in your diet and for the tools available on the site. Information on food groups, grains, fats and all other aspects of diet. It's free and has loads of information and resources. I'm pleasantly surprised to find such a good site and from the government. http://mypyramid.gov/

If you decide to go back to the food pyramid site, the menu planner was working. I made a nice little menu and had calories to spare - which means I think the portions must have been small.

I just went back to the site and did a menu for the day. I was truly schoked at how many calories I ended up with. I thought I was doing well. And this was with no snacks. It definitely is a good tool.

I have this site now saved in my favorites. I try and eat healthy and plan healthy menus. I am glad that it is frre because healthy is not 'free' most of the time. I plan on using this site regularly. I am trying to knock the fat and sugar out of my diet as well as 'most' of the carbohydrates. I wish I could find a site that had menus for what is in your freezer and refrigerator.

I liked the idea that it came from the government and was free too. I don't like to pay. Here are a few sites that you list what's in your pantry to find recipes. I had a really good one and can't find it, but these are some others I use. http://recipefinder.ninemsn.com.au/inthepantry/default.aspx http://allrecipes.com/Search/Ingredients.aspx http://www.myrecipes.com/recipes/ingredients

You never know what will help, but I'm giving it a shot. As I just said above, the menu planner is down for maintenance now and I was hoping to use that. I'll try tomorrow.
