George Clooney's wife in the movie

This is one of my all time favorite movies, and I just so happen to have watched the other day. And as I was watching it I just didn't understand why George was trying to get his wife back, I mean she wasn't all that great looking, and did he not see that she was just a gold digger. Cause the man she was about to marry was a guy helping run a campaign for some KKK who wanted to be Senator, so he was obviously making some type of big bucks for back then. And then all of a sudden when she found out he was the lead singer for the Soggy Bottom Boys, she was like she just had to have him back. Am I the only one who feels this way? Well let me know what your take on this is...
