When you have just handed money over to a charity do you wonder where it goes?

I think if you want to give a donation you should give it directly to the institution. When a collector comes at your door and asks for donation you could always tell them nicely that you will just hand the money directly to the institution. It is not being rude but it is doing the right and safe thing.

I have thought about that too. I think that most charities are very careful with how money is handled but there are a few that might have some problems. One good website to try is http://www.charitynavigator.org/. They evaluate charities. Also that is very rude when you give a small donation and they look at you like its not enough....

It is not that i never thought of it. rather all the times i give money to charity i think so. there are so many corrupted people who take money in name of charity and use in different purpose.

With this kind of transaction, I just hope that the administrators will use all the money collected for good. I hope that corruption in this kind of situation doesn't occur. Giving money to charities is one of the things I long to do since then. It's sharing a part of you as well.

sometimes i do.. i really don't tackle with the charity people. i know most are honest to goodness and would want the cause to be successful and be able to help the intended people.

uptill now i havent had anyone asking me back is that it?wherever i have given money people really appreciate it.once i give money to charity i don't think about it.i just think the money for good deeds.

my husband has worked in an organization in which they worked with Charity companies giving millions of dollars to them on a quarterly basis. If someone comes to you to collect donation and they look at you like "Is that it?" then they are not giving it to the charity. It sucks, but you really need to be careful because I bet half of them are just scamming you. You are so sweet to be giving money to these collectors TRULY you are a GENUINE person, so that is great...Do not lose that spirit, do not feel bad to turn them away, if you have heard of them before that is one thing, if you have not, ask for more information AND Never forget to get a receipt!!! So you can write it off!!! You are so sweet, I love that you are so giving.....There are not enough people out there like you do not ever lose it.

I think there is a website that tells you the percentage each charitable organization actually gives to the intended persons. I don't worry to much because I give to organizations that I see the work they are doing. I give to organizations that are first to help when there is a disaster such as The Red Cross.

My Dad had a philosopy that he gave what he could and if the person didn't like it that was there problem. He also said that he gives and what the person are organization does with it after he handed it to them was of no concern to him simply because he did what Christ said to do and it is in the hands of those who divide to determine where it should go. God will deal with them if they don't do what they should with the money. I have the same viewpoint as my Dad.

I have considering that nowadays money is gettting hotter and hotter due to our economic crisis! I prefer to give directly to the street children or family who needs most rather than passing it to people and giveing food and groceries is ideal than cash!

I really would want to know if it were me. The big issue there is that the people are getting money...what are they doing with it? Is it being used to harm or help? I have seen "charities" that do more harm than help and they continue because they can. Definitely investigate.

I dont really try and think about that kind of stuff because I mean I always think that it is going to where it is suppose to be going.. I have heard before that people will try and scam you that way but I try my best not to think about things like that because if you do then that will make it so you don't want to give your money to other people... I just try to think of the positive in everything and then I always think as long as I try and do the right thing that nothing can really go wrong or at least on my part and I always hope that nothing happens like a scam or something like that ....but thats all i really can do anyways... Sometimes it gets beyond a joke how much we can be asked to contribute sometimes. Do not get me wrong, I donate when I can, but I cannot always afford too as simple as that. Yet I always feel guily and mean if I say no. I guess there are some dishonest people out there who pose as charity collectors but nowadays they have to have badges that state they are what they say. I do not really know whether all money collected or just a percentage goes to the charity or not, if I am in doubt I usually ask them and find out. Yes I have been looked at in disgust when I have only been able to put pennies in the box, the way around that is I send my children with it as they love to have the stickers plus the collectors will not look at them like that!!
