Once there were five blind men walking down a road in India where during their journey they happened upon an elephant. Now being blind the only way they could "see" the elephant was through touching it. The first man grabbed the trunk, the second a tusk, the thrid an ear, the fourth a leg and the fifth the tail. After feeling the elephant, each one his respective part, it went on it's way and so did they. A little while later they came upon a Priest who asked them, "what have you encountered upon your journey today?" They said, "we encountered an elephant". The Priest then asked them to please describe the elephant to him. The first blind man said that it was like a snake with a flat head and had two mouths. The second blind man said, "No, no, that's not right at all! It was hard and smooth and came to a point on the end." The third blind man said, "You're both wrong, it was like a large piece of leather." The fourth one then spoke up and said, "Have you all lost your senses? It wasn't like that at all, it was like the trunk of a tree with leathery bark." Finally the fifth blind man said, "My friends, you are all wrong. It wasn't like any of those things. It was like a rope that was frayed on the end." Then the Priest laughed and said, "Thus it is with man's religions also. Each of them has glimpsed a piece of God and Truth and believes that they have gotten it all and that they are the only ones that know God and Truth. But in reality each one has gotten but a part of the Truth and but a glimpse of God, only when you learn from all of them and are able to put them together are you able to get a bigger, better picture of The Truth and of God."

I've heard of this analogy before, more or less. And it is really helpful.
I once was in a conversation with a friend who asked me what is the true religion. Considering that he just abandoned Catholicism, I tried to be as witty as possible, but as polically correct as I have always tried to be, so that I may be a little considerate of his unstable emotions. So I told him, "well, it's really hard to say which one is real. But look, we are in beach resort (we were at a sea shore that time). We entered here and paid our dues for the cottage, use of beach, etc. But look, we chose to enter this beautiful seashore through this resort because we found the amenities the offer the best among others. We could have chosen other beach resorts along this area, and arrive at the exact same place we are standing right now while we talk."
Then I had to explain my point. "I think, trying to see the truthfulness of a religion rests not on comparing other religions, because at one point or another we shall be reaching the same destination. I think, if you want to find the truth of a religion, then go inside it, if you find fittingly so for you, then embrace what they offer because it is what's best for you."
Beach resorts leading to one same spot in a long beach line. That's how I tried to tell it to my friend. And it made sense.
I was kind of reminded of my story when I saw your disucssion.

I don't think there is one best religion. There are so many of them, so it is wrong for anyone to say that one is better than the other. It all has to do with what you believe. Many christians will tell you that christianity is the best, but budists will tell you that budism is the best, and so on. You just need to look them up, and find one that suits you the best. Pick the one that feels right to you.

i disagree with both of you , there is a true religion in the bible, the verse 2 Corinthians 1:1, Church of God. what we have now in this worlds are false preachers or prophets they are not preaching the true doctrines of Jesus, because they have only hidden interest.

I think there is no good and bad religion and i am totally against differentiating one religion from other. We have to respect other religion and their religious practice.I think religious leaders and some political parties are using religion as a weapon to gain power.Because of this we can see religious tension through out the world.

The way I see it is, there is NO ONE BEST religion in the world...All religions are valid, equal and perfect for someone or another ya know....Whats best for you, only you can decide which is how it should be....

not only the best but a true religion in the Bible, if you will read the Bible you will see a lot of verses of a true religion, The Church of God ACTS 20:28, 2 CORINTHIANS 1:1. If you want to know more about a true religion just visit this website: http://esoriano.wordpress.com/2007/06/19/the-church-is-needed-for-salvation/

it is our faith that will be the best not any religion. it doesnt matter what religion you are in, but do you follow or do you do what is right. so it doen not matter what religion you are right now but your faith is what counts here. there are a lot of religion out there and it is for you to choose and you have to live the teaching.

I would think we don't need any religion. Why do we need a religion unless we are just lonely or have no hope in life? I do not need believe an invisible man is watching after me and protecting me and loves me to live my life. i do not need some invisible man to tell me that it is wrong to kill or torture.
I especially don't need to follow the word of a god that is full of murder, killing and torture. a god that murdered most all life on earth in a flood, promises to torture billions in fire and then turns around and says "love your enemies".
i am not sure what kind of mushrooms they were eating when they put the bible together but they sure knew how to scare people into believing and use it to control them throughout history.
i don't believe anyone reads the bible to understand it. they read it to gain support for the version they were taught from birth or to support the version of ideas that best fit their life.
what good comes from believing in a myth? i guess when we believe in santa we will get gifts even if we don't believe. if you don't believe in jesus, you get tortured in the end..haha. i prefer santa...he is a much nicer guy.
