I only managed to feed my eldest for a month with my eldest and not at all with my youngest - I really wanted to but I didn't produce enough milk! I don't see a problem with feeding a one year old! I also think brea$t feeding is the most natural thing in the world and no one should be made to feel uncomfortable for feeding their child when they are hungry, it makes me really cross when people act as though it was a sinful thing for a mother to be feeding her baby! xxx

I really have to agree with you here Eden! It is such a natural thing and one of the best things you can do for your baby! I tried everything to be able to feed my children myself but there was nothing that helped me produce enough milk! I miss not having done that although I would say that I still have a wonderful bond with them both! xxx

It frusterates me as well. Unfortuately, our society's view on boobs is screwed up. And it gets worse at the child gets older. When they are under a year, then its more accepted but as we get into toddler stage it seems that more and more people frown upon extended nursing. I have my father in law convinced that I am turning my son who will be 15 months this week into a momma's boy. How is this possible????? He is still a baby! And might I add, he is very independant. GRRRR! Sorry about the venting.

I had a hard time in the begining as well. End up with mastitis (sp? and having to get help from a lactation specialist but it was temporary. I do think that my son and I have a special bond and I treasure it. Your bring up a good point about being dependant on other and learning to be close with your family. Thanks!

I live in the US, the average here is sadly about 3 months. However, I am a firm believer in extended, child-lead weaning. What's popular or "normal" really has little to do with my parenting choices. I love to see women who are comfortable & confident enough to nurse in public. They're doing what's best for their baby, and shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable for it.
