What will scare you more? Psychological horror or gorefest.

I saw Psycho, The Exorcist, Carrie, and The Shinning because I had to. I had heard many good things about these films and they are classics. And it took about a week for me to get a good night sleep after every one of them. That's why I don't like horror films, I can't sleep after seeing them.

Better you than me. I won't get used to horror films because I won't see any horror film more than once.

For myself I think the psychological horror movies are far scarier. The ones where the suspense is there building and then boom you are jumping in your seat type are far better then just gore movies. Don't get me wrong I don't mind gore in the movies but I can't see having gore just for the sake of it. If there is a reason for it I don't mind but the ones where it keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for something to happen are the ones that scare me the most.

I haven't seen either of those yet but it sounds like they are ones I should check into. I'll keep them in mind. I agree many today don't seem to have the suspense put in there which can really make a movie in my opinion.

Ya, i too believe that there should be a reason for the gore in the movies. Building suspense is an important thing too. But i see that most modern horror movies dont consider this factor. They just go for action without any suspense. This kills the movie. The movies like 'The descent' and 'The mist' are exceptions to this.

a psuchological horror for sure, I won't even look at the slasher movies I think they are garbage,
no if you like them good for you,
but don't comment and tell me I am wrong,
to each his own as they say.

Oh I much prefer a psychological horror over gore anyday. The gory movies I don't usually find very scary...just gross...lol I used to really like them when I was much younger and they would be scary..not anymore...unless they have a story with suspense to follow.
I like more of true or could be true movie. I loved the Shining, and all the Hanibal Lecter movies. I haven't seen The Mist yet, but I have it in mind as one I am going to see. I like movies about hauntings and such too.
Brightest Blessings, Mari

Yes I am afraid of movies like the "Exorcist", because it is a movie that raises my belief as to whether "the supernatural world" really exist or not. Watching a movie about a little girl being demon possessed scares the living crap out of me, but only when I have recently watched the movie and have spent a great amount of time thinking about it. Same thing with the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", that scares me too. What scares me the most about that movie is the fact that it was based on a true story. But movies like Halloween and Friday the 13th don't scare me as much. I can watch those movies and have a nightmare that same night and get over it the next day. I guess it's because I know that characters like Jason and Freddie Kruger are fake. But the thought of someone being potentially demon possessed in reality scares me.

Criminal thrillers and psychological thrillers scare me the most since I could believe those kind of things really happen to people. The gore fest type films are a little unbelievable to me and therefore don't scare me. I still maintain that Seven was the scariest movie that I ever saw.
