Feed only once a day. You should only feed the Goldfish what he can eat in a few minutes. If he doesn't eat all of the food, then you know your overfeeding him. I sure hope you have a large tank, as Goldfish can get large quickly. They need room to grow.
There are several types of food including flakes, pellets, and frozen food. Many people like to feed flake food, as it costs less in the pet store. I feed pellet and frozen because my fish care eating more of it.

I dont know much about goldfish, but i my native place my grandparents had gold fish.you just put the normal fish food in the water.the fish will automatically come up and eat the food.or just put the food under water,it will go to the bottom of the tank and the fish will eat it.

Goldfish should have 20 gallons (or more) per fish to be able to grow properly. Yes if you feed goldfish floating food all of the time, they might ingest air in the stomach so that the fish might not swim properly. The means that you should either feed sinking foods or soak the food before you feed your fish so that they do not ingest too much air. As for the amount of food, if it takes more than 2 or three minuets to eat then you are overfeeding and will need to do more water changes to keep the water fresh for them to swim in (would you like to swim in a pond that food is floating around in?). I like to take 20% or so each week out and replace it with fresh water that had had the chloramines, chlorine and heavy metals neutralized. I also make sure that the temp is close to the same as the tank water is so that I do not stress them. Good luck in keeping your goldfish and do not keep tropical fish in with your goldfish because they need different temps to stay healthy.
