Yeah thats true.. but wherever I turn to..I find only series, the smallest one being a trilogy.. Till now I have never found a standalone fantasy novel. Have you??

I enjoy good fantasy novels, but good ones are hard to find. The Inheritance series has been really good so far. Of course LOTR. I tried Terry Brooks Shannara series but I found them a bit shallow. Terry Brooks did write a book I found fascinating called, "A Knight of the Word".

If you enjoyed 'A Knight of the Word' he has written two more in that series. And currently he is writing a couple of books to link the 'Knight of the Word' series and that of Shannara, which will hopefully be more like the former rather than the latter!

They are, in order
Running with the Demon, A Knight of the Word and Angel Fire East. Apparently he is tying this series in with the Shannara series somehow. It will show the origins of the Word/Void. You can get more info on his website, www.terrybrooks.net

I tend to read books by R A Salvatore and other authors like Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffrey. Books in the Forgotten Realms series and Dragonlance series too.

I have read a few in my time. Tolkein is by far the greatest, but I would recommend David Gemmell, Trudi Canavan and Stephen Donaldson. Great writers who don't just do one offs, they write at least three or four in a series, so you always have something more to look forward to. I love that feeling when I finish a book and can't wait to get the next in the series, because I am guaranteed to enjoy many more hours.

As far as I am concerned..I do not read fantasy. I would have my own fantasies through thinking..visualising..

I enjoyed Harry Potter, but not because I thought it was great fantasy fiction. I have read the rest but not particularly impressed with them, especially the Eragon series. I was bored halfway through Eragon and was really glad I didn't pay for eldest. I give Robert Jordan credit for what he has brought to the genre but dislike everything thing of his that I have read. I know I have books by feist and chester, but none of them are very memorable or I would be able to tell you which ones.
My fantasy authors of preference are Harlan Ellison, Charles de Lint, Ursula Le Guin, Emma Bull, Patricia Briggs, Neil Gaiman, and a host of others who do mostly short fantasy work.
For the most part I dislike high fantasy. I prefer urban fantasy when I read, which is probably why I write it. But given a choice I choose scifi over fantasy almost any day.

Yep, I like fantasy fiction because it's fairly easy to digest and keeps me interested throughout. I particularly like Garth Nix and Diana Wynne Jones. To be honest, though, it's been a while since I have read anything at all. I should get back in the habit, it beats wasting time on MyLot (oops)!
