Eurovision Song Contest 08 - are people aware of it?

The annual Eurovision Song Contest is due to appear on Europe's TV screens in May this year - but I was curious to know whether anyone outside of Europe is familiar with the contest? If so, what do you make of it? Is there a similar contest around? Also, from the Europeans here, who do you think will win this year? And do you think that the voting is generally too patriotised?
