I don't have a proper job

April 3, 2008 10:46am CST
I have been self-employed for 5 years, working from home. I do various things to earn money online, selling books and more recently blogging and writing articles and stories. However, my sister and parents still seem to think that I have not got a proper job. I know that I am not making a fortune but my profits are increasing and I was very proud to make over a thousand pounds profit last month. Do you find that people think you are not doing a proper job?

I think you should be proud, your family should be proud of you too. Making a living from home and working online is actually more difficult to do than getting a job because you have to do all your own promotion, selling and researching as well as having the skill to write. How many people with a 'proper job' have to do that much or would have the determination to do it for five years. You deserve every penny you earn, which is more than can be said for many better paid workers.

Thank you! It does take hard work and commitment. There are lots of tips in my blog on how I do it including a monthly review of how I have made my money that month which is always published on the 1st. So if you look at my profile and follow the link to my blog you can take a look.

Yes,You see my dear friend all the income sources you told are absolutely temporary, you can't say a particular income you can earn per month, it may increase or decrease, but I am not against to the Self Employment. If you can you do such a business that may give you an absolute income per month and if possible with your self employment you can show livelihood to few people. But you choose such a business that should more utilised for common people (Ex.Soaps, Deodarant OR take it any item from the monthly provisions), if you can afford start a Super Market. Always any business should be reachable to "COMMON MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE AND THE ITEMS SHOULD BE ON DEMAND FOR THE ENTIRE 365 DAYS" then it will be very successful. If you can't do such business then you search for a suitable regular incomed job as per your qualifications, and continue what ever you are doing now, then present what you are earnings becomes side income along with regular salary, best of luck, I wish for your success.
