Can you sleep hearing the tick tack of the clock?

I can sleep but it will be long time (2 to 3 hours) before i can really sleep. For me, it is so distracting and I enjoy sleeping without hearing anything. Until, I decided to take out all the clocks in my room so I can wake up anytime I want when I will not do anything the next day. I can even use my handphone alarm clock to wake me up. It is just annoying to hear the tick tack of the clock when you want to have rest. Also during the times that was studying, I easily get irritated by the sounds it brings. Luckily in this new house where I am staying, they don't have clock inside the room. But guess what? They have this ding dong (really loud clock, like those in the horror movie) and it sounds so weird especially at night) and I can't stand it even if it located in the living room. Which is which? I better accept those small clocks inside the room than hearing that ding dong sound owned by this chinese family. Well, I am just sharing.

When I am tired, I don't bother whether the wall clocks make noises or not. But when I am not,I get distracted. I can count each and every tickings. I think sleeping in presence such electronically produced noise is a habit, if you get accustomed to it, then it will bother a very less to you.

I could sleep whiling listening to the tick tock of a clock, i mean i am a heavy sleeper but what does that mean extactly? Well to put it this way my mom used to have to drag me out of bed or either put a blow horn next to my face just to even make me twitch. Its crazy how many people cant get any sleep anymore. So many people are having sleep problems more now then ever. I geuss that goes to show that the country is more busy then we ever could be, i watched something on the science channel 1 yr back that there making it to were people can walk into a building and take a 20 minute nap and wakeup refreshed and ready to go about there day without having the nervious excuse of looking like a burnout all day just becuase they couldnt get enough sleep becuase they had a big presentation due for there boss. Its remarkable how many people in America have that problem, i think everyone should take some time to atleast devote 6 to 8 hours of sleep so they can atleast handle the busy day thats arriving.

lol. thats funny, I understand though! the tick tock annoys me too. and when i stay at my grandparents house i hear the spooky horror movie clock, they have like 3 in their house. its pretty disturbing when your trying to sleep.....
but now my family has a parrot. and i have to say- he is the worst of all night time noises that i have ever had to deal with!! he screams and yells a LOT while i am trying to sleep. it is SO annoying!

hi mickey. i think i can. when i am really sleepy, i am not choosy, i would just roll over on one side and the next thing i know, it is already morning. anyway, i am cool about it as long as it keeps tickin while i am asleep. i don't like it when i am sleepin soundly and the grandfather clock will sound the midnight bell. that would really rouse me from sleep..i think...lol but if i am already in my deep sleep then i don't mind. :)

yes. i believe i can sleep with a tick tack of the clock.. hehe
it will be a bother though... its really hard to sleep hearing such a sound.. i would find it rather difficult to concentrate on sleeping and my focus will probably be on that sound... where it is coming from.. or how many seconds have passed...

That is one sound I cannot stand, the tick/tock of a clock. Doesn't matter if I'm trying to sleep or not. It drives me up the wall. I'm very sensitive to the sound too. I've been known to hear it on watches even if they are put in a drawer and under clothes. I have this beautiful Eeyore clock and I can't use it. It ticks and so I had to take the batteries out and just leave it not running.

well my clock makes this really stange noise but by the time i remember to take it down i am already under the warm duvet and just cant get up to reach it....but whats, even more strange is i am use to the noise and now i just listen to it and i fall asleep, when you concentrate on a noise your using your brain to locate this which will keep you awake try i know its hard to listen to it like its something nice and i am sure you will get use to it and fall asleep..hope this helps..x

hahaha, just don't mind the clocks tick.. :P
try to concentrate on emptying your mind, as soon as you do that you wont even know that you already fell asleep.. ^_^ i think that the small clocks would be nicer cause the real big clock could wake you up in the middle of the night.. ^_^ its like a big alarm. ^_^ hahaha.. ^_^
just a suggestion.. ^_^
try it, ok? ^_^ it might work, it works for me... ^_^ hhehehe.. ^_^

I can't stand having a tick tock in my bedroom or even close enough to hear it anywhere. I don't know how you can stand the ding dong. If it's a chime clock they usually have a setting that will have the chimes only during the daytime and nothing at night. My mother has one and I had to fix it for her.
I usually have a fan or ceiling fan going at night to muffle sounds. A fan gives a steady sound that can help you sleep.

Yes Mickey..im pretty lucky i can sleep through the ticking clock!!
But i well know that it drives some people mad!!
I see where you are coming from about the chiming clock!!
My son stayed with his granny..she has a chiming clock on the wall in her front room...well he had to sleep on the sofa...after a while he just couldnt sleep...so he got up and took it off of the wall...and stuck it through into the kitchen!!!
I laughed when i heard this ..but he said it was soo loud!!!
My son in law stayed with us..and he put the alarm clock outside of the bedroom door!!!
Soi ts not only you Mickey!!
