Prince Edwards children?

I recently read that Prince Edward of England has a baby son born in 2007. I don't believe I ever heard a thing about this babies birth. Times have changed haven't they? It is not too many years ago that a Royal birth was headlines for days and great debates were held over what the baby should be called. I don't even know what this new babys name is.
What do you know about the British Royal family?

Being British there has never been a time when I cannot remember the Royal Family being in he news. Prince Edward's latest child is a boy called James. His official title is Viscount Severn. Generally the Royal family are seen as an irrelevance by many Britons. There is a feeling that they soak up vast quantities of money and give little in return. This is a view that I do not entirely share of the Queen, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, but the others I believe provide very little to benefit the country. Prince Edward was briefly a film maker. But the only films that he sold were the ones that he made about his own family. Then he sold up, or rather bowed out before going bust and now does the rounds of public engagements. I think that Princes William and Harry are well aware that the public expect more from the Royals and it will be interesting to see how they develop as they take on more and more public duties.

I am sure that you will find hundreds of photos. But times have changed - not always for the better. It will be interesting see if another attempt is made to take Australia to a Republic status. I don't really know if the public there is completely behind that idea.

We have a new government here in Australia, our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd does support moving away from the British ties and becoming a Republic. I think he is actually in Britain at the moment and meeting the Queen. He is the first PM in my memory that has fulfilled his election promises and I feel very optimistic that he is an honest and trustworthy politician, now that is usually an oxymoron isnt it!
I only found one picture of the baby when he was a newborn. In a way Im glad to see that they are keeping him more private.
In Australia the royal focus now tends to be towards Princess Mary of Denmark because she is/was Australian.

I am not sure how the British view Rudd. I think that there is always a frisson of palpable fear here when Australia or NZ get new PMs. I don't think that we really are too bothered about whether you are a Republic or not, but we don't like the idea of change to the old order. But I can see from the other major Commonwealth countries perspective, what does the Royal family bring to you. None of them even live there. But they pop over once a decade and wave to the throngs that are always there for such events. They can't all be British immigrants! Although there is a guy in Australia that has some pretensions to the throne as he can trace his lineage directly to Henry II, which is something that the Queen cannot do. We live in interesting times. many thanks for the BR.

yes I think I remember seeing a photo of the them with their baby and yes you are right there wasn't much about them in the news, maybe they are a little too far down the line and maybe they wish to to be more private in their lives...
