What kind of Dangerous Animals do you have in your Country?

Australia has dangerous snakes, spiders, sharks & crocodiles. Snakes & spiders rarely deliberately attack & if you see one, it is easy to avoid (although people get bitten & die every year). Sharks & crocodiles are much harder to avoid, as one rarely sees one before they attack. If people swim in the ocean here, they need to keep between the flags where there are life guards. We have shark attacks every year too. Once attacked, is is very hard to fight off a shark. So what kind of dangerous animals does your country have? How to people avoid them? If attacked, what do you do to escape?

JohnDur, you forgot to mention mosquitos. Well, they are actually insects but they too can be very dangerous especially those that carry malaria and dengue. Sometimes they are even deadly. Also sometimes there are too much jellyfish on the sea near my house and they're quite dangerous as well. You will be surprised to see people swimming with pants and pullover on to protect themselves from jelly fish attacks.

Oh you know, the usual--we have sharks, mountain lions, bears (black and brown), wolves and I'm sure the list goes on. Each state probably has their own. Out in the desert here we have rattle snakes and coyotes. We might even have a few bears up into the mountain.

If ever we encounter a bear we're supposed to stand very still and try to make yourself look as tall as possible. I'll try to remember that but I'm sure I'll scream and run.

Minnesota has wolves as well. they are like dogs and will approach humans for various reasons. the only way to fend off an attack is to slap them hard on the snout I heard. They seldom attack humans but will come after them to protect their young and their territory. The same goes basically for Mountain Lions/Cougars here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

lemme see.. the US has all kinds of fun things.. snakes, spiders, alligators, jellyfish, sharks. bears, mountain lions, feral dogs of different varieties..the list goes on. most of the animals don't attack if left alone, but more and more people are encroaching on their areas,so attacks do happen. i guess one way to protect yourself would be to carry a repellant spray, but that's not always effective.

Yes, and with reduced areas comes reduced food, so they are going to go into human areas. Which of these do you see in your area?

mainly the feral dogs (coydogs, coyote, and wolves- though i've never seen one)and the sharks and jellyfish.i live in new england, and they've basically pushed out ever thing else over time. the coyotes have only returned in numbers relatively recently. it's too cold up here in winter for some of the species to come this far north.

Where I live there are not really a lot of dangerous animals. Probably the most dangerous around here would be mosquitoes carrying lime disease, or ticks. There are some wild wolves but they are few and rarely seen, and I don't think there has ever been any problems with them. Around here you are more likely to get attacked by a dog, than by a wild animal.

What is lime disease?

The mosquito in my state causes the Ross River virus. Not really deadly, but can make one very ill. There are warnings about it now.

A disorer caused by a bacterial infection transmitted by a tick. I'm sorry I confused things I should have said tick spreading lime disease rather than mosquito. It starts out like a rash, and then can cause flu like symptoms, but can even lead to more serious problems such as arthritus, neouroligical symptons, and heart problems, so it can be pretty serious. The mosquito can cause the west nile virus.

Aligators, some snakes, sharks, jelly fish, spiders, and my wife. Well she is only dangerous sometimes. I never realized how little really dangerous animals we have here in America, most would be found in the ocean.

I would say human beings are the most dangerous of animals, but I know that is not what you meant. The US is made up of an assortment of climates, so we have lots of different dangerous animals. In Florida there are alligators, and in lots of places there are spiders, and there are a few poisonous varieties of snakes and lizards. In the mountains are cougars or mountain lions, in some parts of the country there are bears. Does Australia have any bear or similar animal. I think the Brown Recluse is a very dangerous spider as it hides and when threatened bites aggressively. The bites rot out the flesh and the bite can take place in one site and the poison show up else where. An example is a friend of mine was bitten on his right side, but it was his left foot and ankle that swole up and was dangerously infected. People avoid them by avoiding dark dusty places.

Brown recluse spiders are native to the United States, generally from the upper midwest and south of that. However, they do get moved all over in packing boxes, etc. You may be too far north for them to survive and be a problem.

Australia doesn't have any bears whatsoever. A lot of people mistakenly think that koalas are a kind of bear, & call them koala bears, even Aussies. I have heard of the brown recluse spider. We have similar spiders that rot the flesh too. I was bitten by a tiny spider many years ago when I was in the Gawler Ranges, & it made a small scar like feature on my leg.

I live in the UK and it doesn't have any dangerous wildlife. If dogs are vicious they wear a muzzle to prevent them biting anyone. I love to travel and have been to some countries where rabies is present. In Kenya I had the worry of malaria carrying mosquitoes. In Australia I saw a dangerous snake whilst walking on Great Keppel Island. I have seen crocodiles and spiders, but I was surprised that crocodiles can be found up to 100kg inland in QLD and the NT. I was concerned about the possibility of stinging box jellyfish being in the sea of the coast up by Cairns. I have enjoyed snorkeling with reef sharks but the large ones can be really dangerous. Cockroaches. ticks and leeches are unpleasant but maybe not all that dangerous.

Someone else from the UK responded, & he/she said that the only dangerous animals in the UK were some humans. The box jellyfish can kill very quickly with it's very powerful venom, but fortunately it is rarely seen. I think it is only ion the very northern waters.

You forgot to mention that Australia's marsupials can be dangerous too. The kangaroo has a powerful kick, and yeah, people are hospitalised for trying to box Skippy every year. Koalas have very sharp claws and teeth, as do the Quoll and tasmanian devil. The echidna has spines that you wouldn't want to use as a bed, and the male platypus has a spur that can cause a very painful injury. And possums! Ah, yeah, don't feed them! lol. Cute and cuddly? yeah, but make sure they are made out of anything other than skin and bones. Try wool or cotton or synthetics. Not so dangerous! lol.

Yes, this is true. Some of these native australian animals can cause significant injuries, but only if people are foolish enough to try something stupid. My husband had to rescue a possum from our apple tree, & he was bitten by it.

Here in the united states we also have sharks and crocodiles and dangerous snakes like rattlers, and pumas and mountain lions and bears too and wild cats also weasels and ferrets , small vicious animals. People know enough to stay out of wwaters posted as having sharks in them. I am not sure how one would escape from a shark without help from other people.

Shark attacks are common here too. Some scientists in Adelaide have developed a shark repellant which is recommended for divers, etc to wear. I think your pumas & lions would be the most dangerous.

Well, here in Minnesota we have Black bears that are very dangerous and have been coming into the cities to scavange for food in sumpsters etc. We also have Rattle snakes. Mountain Lions/cougars. And wolves is another dangerous animal. They were just removed from the endangered list here as well. They tend to kill a LOT of livestock. Bears are fairly easy to avoid as they seldom come near people. The rattle snakes are different. One can seldom see them until it's too late. Bitten and one could die easily from their venom. The rattle is used to warn off predators etc so if one hears it, it is best to backtrack to avoid scaring them. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have heard so much about bears scavenging & causing a problem for residents. Is it that there is not enough of their native food now, or has human habitation taken over their habitat & they will search anywhere? Rattle Snakes... yes, I can relate to that. Like our snakes, they are extremely venomous. Wolves are a lot like our dingoes, killing livestock. Tend not to be a problem for humans though, with one very notable exception of Azaria Chamberlain.
