Would you want to live to be over 100?

Scientific research can tell us why and how we age, but does this insight help us stay younger, longer? Until very recently, most experts would have said no. Many held that the aging of cells, and of multicellular organisms like humans, was inevitable—and therefore, there was a limit to how long each species could live. One theory held that the biological life span of any species is roughly six times the stretch between birth and maturity. Using this formula, the maximum lifespan for humans is 120 years. In fact, one well-documented contender for the title of longest-lived person is a French woman believed to be 122 years old when she died in 1997. would you want to live to be over 100? why or why not?

No way. I hope that I have accomplished everything on my life's to do list. I would never want to be that old, I'm sorry. I can't even imagine myself at fifty. I think I'll probably be so alone it won't even be funny. With my luck, everyone that I know will die before me. Life's too weird and complicated and I have a feeling that it will never go away with age.

Whether or not I would want to lie to be 100 years old would have to do with how healthy I would be. Were I chronically ill at this stage in my life, I wouldn't want to live to be thirdy, but were I completely healthy at 100+ I would want to live as long as I comortably could.

If I were healthy and knew I'd not get dementia, maybe, otherwise no.

Definitely no.If you live to be 100 than most people you know would already be long gone, may have failing health and more than likely alone or in a home. The way the world is going sometimes I look forward to the end of the road.

I prefer not to, I would be too old by then. Keeping at phase with life in that age would be hard.

Thank you for the best response. I am waiting for the reporters to come on my 120th birthday and ask "How come you made it so far?" I have a string of answers to give them.

I saw the commercials for that Barbara Walters special but I didn't get to see it. It sounds very interesting. I think if people who live to be over 100 years old are healthy and happy then it would be a good thing for them. Myself included but if they were getting to be those ages and they were riddled with health problems and suffering I don't think it would be good at all.

I know of two people who lived until they were over 100 and they were in good health, mostly, and in good spirits. They were people who were kind, fun to be with and with it in their ability to communicate with young people. One used to go and stand in front of a mirror morning and night and stand straight up like a queen and say, "I like you Alice." She did this once when she walked into my sister's house and I will never forget seeing this as a woman in my 20s. She used to say that she didn't like being with old people as they were bitter. She was great to be with. I also remember my great aunt who I met when she was in her 90s. She was unable to drive due to eyesight problems and needed a new hip but otherwise was healthy and was the matriarch of my family. She typed letters to me about her life and her past on this antique script typewriter. She was kind to me as we both shared the same first name. She liked watching football games, talking, and being at family gatherings. If I can be like these women when I get older, then 100 will not be so bad. I am hoping that I will age with grace and be kind, compassionate and wise rather than being infirm, bitter and tired or worse without the ability to communicate... I expect that 100 will be fine.

I think it is a normal feeling to have at your age, and I hope you never find out if you feel that way for many many years to come.

off hand I'd have to say no i would not want to live to be over 100 or even near 100. I'm in bad enough shape as it is and I'm only 31 lol from my perspective 55 is pushing it hehe.

though I've heard the human body was most probably capable of sustaining itself for upwards of 450 years, I'd like to see that happen lol guess i never will ... but who ever the first person that will live to 150 years old is probably already alive today.

probably not. I am pretty sure I cannot do a lot of thing like using internet, or dancing or goofy around. I hate to depend on people too. If I cannot do all that, I better not live to 100. better gone when I still can do all my activities in peace.

I wouldn't want to live past 100, I think most of my loved ones would be gone and my body would be frail and on the break of crumbling, it just is something that I wouldn't want to have to go through.

It's one of the few ambitions I have left - I ant to tlive to be a hundred yars old. My family history is against me with my dad and grandad dying young and my mum was only 64 too. However I believe if you can keep mind and body reasonably healthy there is no reason not to make the century. I'm just over half way there now, so wish me luck!

No, I would rather die young and have a good quality of life than live for a long time and suffer for many years. If I could live to the ripe old age of 100 and be healthy, look about 70 and still have some form of a life then I would be happy enough with it.
